The position:
Apex is seeking a seasoned Senior Lead Consultant Portfolio Coach lead with strong consultative skills to act as an Agile development leader Internal Practice Consultant within our Consulting Practice as part of our Apex Systems Solutions Delivery Organization. This role is best suited for someone with a deep understanding of typical organizational operating models, various agile frameworks, and best practices, to support all elements of an enterprise transformation, influencing people, leaders and management that directly interface with and oversee transformations. This role will also provide subject matter expertise and will help mentor Apex Systems’ internal consultants in their career growth and development. This role will be responsible for client deliverables as well as internal consulting practice contributions and leadership. Must be on site first week of engagement, then follow the client’s hybrid schedule. 
 
Responsibilities:

  • Build strong client, industry, and technical community relationships and represent Apex Systems as leaders in Industry and Professional events and communities.
  • Demonstrate expert-level technical knowledge, skills, and effective professional consulting skills., serving as a subject matter expert.
  • Expected to work in connection with the Client and Internal Executives and stakeholders, providing consultative solutions
  • Provide thought leadership and influence others to learn about agile principles and its benefits to become champions of change
  • Develop engagement roadmap, communication plan and any related reporting for client delivery
  • Evaluate organizational culture and structure to identify barriers and impacts of initiatives and develop strategies that lead to successful adoption
  • Oversee and ensure all deliverables are met in alignment with the Statement of Work
  • Ability to strategize and implement high-level program initiatives
  • Implement Lean Portfolio Management across multiple portfolios
  • Facilitate Value Stream Mapping and Lean Process Mapping
  • Establish Lean Portfolio Management processes and LPM Runbook to feed various Programs, Agile Release Trains (ARTs) and Teams
  • Make recommendations to align the organization, define roles and responsibilities, and support major structural changes needed to optimize transformation outcomes
  • Assist with building out a governance model, methodology, process, artifacts, tools and templates
  • Assess organization alignment and readiness for change and develop interventions to improve
  • Develop and implement metrics to track and evaluate the effectiveness around adoption, change success and initiatives
  • Proactively identify and manage engagement and change risks and devise innovative solutions to address potential issues.
  • Employ various techniques to increase collaboration, transparency, predictability, and delivery of value.
  • Utilize team tracking tools (such as Jira, Azure DevOps, etc.) to define and compile key performance metrics, ensuring accurate reporting and analysis.
  • Utilize Portfolio Management tools (such as ServiceNow, Planview, MS Project, Clarity, Basecamp, etc.
  • Strategically account for long-term sustainment of transformation through designing Centers of Excellence standards, establishing Communities of Practice, and staying in tune with the client’s technology and product initiatives to support mechanisms for cross-training and innovation
  • Demonstrate professional level consulting skills, leadership skills, and executive-level communication/presentation skills while being adaptable and flexible to acquire skills to meet business needs
  • Continually innovate, seek creative solutions, and find new ways of adding value.
  • Listen and seek to understand the client and meet their needs, proactively provide solutions and approach adversity with a consultative, solution-focused mindset
  • Stay attuned to the future needs of the client and work with internal resources to identify opportunities.
  • Participate in sales pursuits by providing strategic guidance, estimates, scoping and other pre-sales activities

Experience:
  • 15+ years of overall agile experience
  • 8+ years of experience as an Agile Coach in a large organization
  • 5+ years coaching distributed teams at scale including at enterprise levels
  • 3+ years of agile experience, including SAFe LPM
  • SAFe Lean Portfolio Management Certification required
  • SAFe SPC preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Design, Business Administration, Systems Engineering, Management Information Systems or related field (applicable education and experience may be substituted) Master’s Degree a plus.
  • Must have facilitated and implemented LPM and Value Stream Mapping
  • Additional Coaching-related Certification preferred
  • Thorough understanding of Agile Methodology, Agile and/or Project Management certifications preferred
  • Experience with leading SAFe transformations, standing up and leading a LACE, preferred
  • Experience with communications and/or stakeholder engagement activities, such as developing communications plans, talking points, and/or presentation materials
  • Required expertise in PowerPoint, to develop high-profile executive presentations, as well as developing metrics from Agile tracking tools like ServiceNow, Jira or Azure DevOps
  • Required expertise or PPM/SPM/APM Products from ServiceNow, familiar with any other portfolio management tools (Planview, MS Project, Clarity, Basecamp, etc.)
  • Well-versed in virtual coaching techniques and collaboration tools
  • Excellent creative, conceptual, storytelling, and analytic thinking skills
  • Must be a team player with strong interpersonal skills, able to work in team setting and independently
  • Excellent writing skills, strong communication and presentation skills
  • Exceptional leadership, time management and organizational skills
