Case Study: Placing Information Security and Infrastructure Professionals at a Government Agency

March 2018

CaseStudyBlog: PM/BA

Apex has the experience and connections to provide staffing and consulting solutions to support the entire life-cycle of our clients’ IT projects. Since 2013, Apex has placed over 3,223 security professionals by leveraging the following:

  • A local recruiting team in each branch with recruiters that have received essential Information Security and Infrastructure training primarily focused on sourcing and screening Information Security and Infrastructure candidates
  • Support for each of our local recruiting teams with our Information Security and Infrastructure Practice Group, one of our 16 Skill Practice Groups focused on four key skill IT areas
  • Dedicated Practice Director Rob Burns

Read more about how Apex has placed Information Security and Infrastructure resources at a Government Agency client below.

SCOPE
Our client needed 14 temporary resources in multiple U.S. locations to identify security weaknesses in the current environment and strengthen their security posture in accordance with the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) project. The CDM Project is government mandated and ensures federal security by providing continuous monitoring, diagnostics, and mitigation capabilities to strengthen federal government networks and systems. With a one year time frame, the client needed a Project Manager, Network Engineers, Systems Analysts, a Senior IT Specialist, and a Senior Security Specialist to perform a full security assessment on current systems.

SOLUTION
Apex understood that finding technical professionals in multiple areas (District of Columbia, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, and Tennessee) is challenging. To meet this demand, Apex engaged our national Government Services Delivery Center to recruit resources with federal government experience in multiple locations. Additionally, Apex engaged both our PMO Practice Group and Security Practice Group to provide technical expertise coupled with market analysis to locate the right resources. The resources were responsible for the following:

  • Assisting in the revision of baselines and/or the reengineering of organizational processes and strategies
  • Leading the integration of new tools into the existing environment, maintenance of current tools, and migration and documentation updates for both legacy and new tools
  • Configuring and managing storage of data including transfer between systems for the CDM dashboard, and assistance in analytical reporting and data outputs
  • Providing strategy and remediation for weaknesses and gaps in addition to assisting in the closure of audit findings by agencies including but not limited to, TIGTA, GAO and internal controls assessment findings
  • Executing transition management activities and knowledge transfer

RESULT
Apex was selected to provide all project resources. Our client received 28 candidates to interview within one week, 14 of these resources were selected to fill project spots. This project is ongoing and we have retained 100% of the resources working on the CDM project.
