I am Apex’s Practice Director for Information Security and Infrastructure. As a former CSO, I joined Apex having built multiple IT Risk Management practices for enterprise organizations around the country. My 20 years of technical security experience enhances our capabilities as a leading provider of Information Security talent, while also continuing to establish partnerships with top security solution vendors. As the leader of our Information Security practice, I develop competitive strategies to effectively build and maintain a candidate pipeline and am responsible for enabling our security-focused recruiters to successfully place professionals with the right skills at the right time. What are the latest trends in your skill specialty, and how is Apex responding to them? Among the positions filled within the InfoSec space in the past twelve months, nearly half of those are Security Analyst roles. A large majority of those are focused on threat analysis, vulnerability management, and operational security controls. While the technology continues to improve, there is still no substitute for having qualified resources who handle the typical “blocking and tackling” that security analysts manage on a daily basis. Those who have experience with security focus in cloud operations are in significant demand. Year over year, we have witnessed a 10-15% salary growth for IT Security professionals across the board. This increase is even higher for some markets, and is significantly inflated for those who have subject matter expertise in Cloud Security, Threat Intelligence, and leadership roles. What certifications do you see in demand in your Skill Practice Group? Without a doubt, the top certification requirement in the InfoSec field is the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and Cloud Security certifications are also in higher demand. While there are a percentage of our customers who require specific certifications, most view them as desirable, and are willing to allow their contractors or new hires to get the certifications as necessary. What do you think sets Apex apart? I have spent nearly 20 years of my IT career working with staffing firms to build my teams within various organizations before joining Apex, so I have a unique perspective about what sets Apex apart. Relationships matter. When we meet with our clients – whether it be in person or on the phone, we take the time to properly qualify positions. This enables us to understand what the clients need and their long term strategy, ensuring we deliver the right talent. Fun Facts: I have two daughters Kendyl (14) and Lauryl (11) I am a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan I have coached my daughters’ basketball teams the past 5 seasons. It explains my lack of hair.
