2016 Quarter of Caring

February, 2017

In 2014, Apex launched a new philanthropic initiative, an annual philanthropy campaign called ‘Quarter of Caring.’ The premise is simple… Each office/team chooses at least one nonprofit to support throughout the 4th quarter (10/1-12/31), and supports them in at least one capacity. Our 3rd QoC campaign has been the most impactful one yet, by far! For the first time, we had 100% office participation, and 93% employee participation between Apex and Apex Life Sciences! Even though the goal was to support one nonprofit throughout the quarter, most offices supported 2-4 different charitable organizations, with some teams helping 5-6! There was also no shortage of variety or creativity in the types of 501c3 organizations chosen, and fundraisers, drives, and other charitable events conducted!

When we calculated the contributions of our individual teams, we were so excited, and slightly astonished, to see that collectively, members of the Apex family supported 145 nonprofits, volunteered 3,447 hours, raised/contributed $38,084 in monetary donations, adopted 27 families, and held 60 drives (food, clothing/coats, toys, pet supplies).

The creativity, commitment and heart our teams display in their efforts is always an amazing sight to see! Here are some of our favorite stories from QoC:

1. Our Jacksonville office planned an activity night at their local Ronald McDonald House for Halloween. Not only did they get in the spirit by dressing the part, in full costumes, but one team member lined up the local football team mascot to do a guest appearance for the kids!

2. For the 3rd year in a row, our Portland office got their hands dirty by planting trees and doing an environmental clean-up at Tyron Creek!

3. Our Boston office supported a total of 5 different charities and organizations, including The Giving Tree, the Movember Foundation, The Salvation Army, a New Orleans School district that was in desperate need of classroom supplies, and participated in Breast Cancer Awareness month. In total, the Boston office raised over $930 through their efforts!

4. Philly chose to support the Valley Youth House of Philadelphia. The House provides holiday gifts to over 300 youth in the Greater Philadelphia each year, and our Cherry Hill-Valesta and Philadelphia Apex Life Sciences offices teamed up to assist them in wrapping well over 300 gifts.

5. The Fort Worth office provided a total of 9,746 meals to the Tarrant Area Food Bank in 2 events! Fort Worth, an office of 12, blew it out of the water collecting over 1,000 cans for Tarrant Area Food Bank, which provided 833 meals families in need. The Fort Worth team also volunteered at the Food Bank, serving in a Quality Control capacity, and sorted 10,696 pounds of food product, which provided more than 8,913 meals.

6. Our Salt Lake City office was able to support three charities this QoC, one being The Road Home. They donated 340 items to their clothing drive, which was the largest donation of any single organization in 2016!

QoC has really become a staple in our organization, and people look forward to it all year! Giving back has become core to our culture, and many offices have quarterly #GiveBack Plans in place! We look forward to seeing the impact our teams can make in 2017, and beyond!
