SCOPE Our publishing client provides technical resources through web applications that enable users to access and search knowledge files related to medical and scientific publications. Due to the nature of their business, the release of their new applications and enhancements to existing platforms was scheduled on strict timelines. To help meet the requirements of their users, our client required the following: Publishing of Medical Content XML tagging of content for indexing Medical taxonom Semantic tagging of information Targeted meta data for online search effectiveness Host to sites in an SAS SOLUTION Our client intended to use the resources of a large integrator to create this team of employees. Apex proposed the idea of staff augmentation as an alternate solution to allow our client to more closely manage the staff and resources themselves. With the technical guidance and expertise of our Microsoft Development Practice, Apex was able to double the size of our client’s development team in two months. Countless hours were saved by having Apex Technical Analysts fully vet and screen the candidates prior to submittal. Apex also provided office space for remote consultants that were unable to commute to our client’s worksite. Our team was comprised of the following: Front, middle, and back tier developers with strong ASP.NET experience. This team is responsible for ad-hoc customer projects as well as a specific release of a new web application going to market to new clients. Specific technologies included VB.NET, ASP.NET, SQL Server, AJAX, jQuery, JSON XML, XSLT Web Services, Telerik Controls, and Subversion for source control. Apex’s Microsoft Practice Director, the local branch Delivery Manager, and specialty Microsoft recruiters qualified the skill requirements of the positions directly with the client manager. They then created a successful recruiting and technical screening strategy unique to this client’s requirements so that each candidate provided would have the right skills for our client’s program. RESULT The key deliverable associated with this project was the need for ten developers to be identified, hired, and on-boarded within four weeks. Apex met this goal and maintained staffing levels of 100%. As a result of our success, our client came back to Apex and requested an additional 10 developers to support their next wave of projects. All new web applications and enhancements associated with this project are on schedule to be implemented on time.
