June 2018

We caught up with Angelo Lynn who leads talent acquisition strategies for Apex’s Infrastructure Practice. As Practice Director, Angelo oversees national Infrastructure recruiting efforts, provides training and sourcing strategies, and works directly with clients to create elite candidate profiles. Read more about Angelo and what’s trending in our Infrastructure Practice below.

Tell us about your role at Apex.
I am the Infrastructure Practice Director. I assist our clients in taking advantage of our delivery model, which includes a rigorous qualification process. I ensure that all candidates are screened for technical aptitude using a proprietary technical screening process. Along with the rest of the national practice team, I aid customers with writing job descriptions and help to streamline the interview process. I also provide training on various technology topics.

What are the latest trends in your skill specialty, and how is Apex responding to them?
Software Defined Networks (SDN) are starting to be common implementations in data centers. Cloud service providers are leading the way because of the advanced technology they are introducing, the building of their own networking switches, using their own software, and embracing this new model of open-defined infrastructure. This is forcing traditional data center vendors with legacy technology to play catch up.

DevOps has been around for a while; however, you still have enterprises struggling with DevOps transformations. We continue to help companies break down the silos between dev and operations teams. Automating more and more tasks will be key to a company’s DevOps success.

What do you think sets Apex apart?
Apex is such a great company; there are too many differentiators to list. I would like to highlight the fact they we have the “Apex Elite Qualification Program”. The Apex Elite Qualification Program is a proprietary skills assessment system, designed to identify the very best technical resource for our clients.

What certifications do you see in demand in your Skill Practice Group?
Cisco certs remain the most popular certifications in this area. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA): Validates your ability to manage most aspects of an Enterprise network, including features like Wide Area Network (WAN) connections, routing protocols, security, and advanced troubleshooting.

Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA): Validates your knowledge surrounding Cisco Enterprise networks and your ability to plan a converged network including routing and switching infrastructures.

We are starting to see an increase in engineers gaining their cloud certs. Each cloud platform has their own certification process.

  • AWS – Certified Cloud Practitioner, Certified Solutions Architect
  • Azure Certified Solutions Architect
  • Google Certified Professional Cloud Architect.

Fun Facts:

  • I'm originally from Boston, Massachusetts, but now reside in Atlanta, GA. I'm still a diehard Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox fan though!
  • I skipped the 3rd grade!
  • My grandad was a famous Civil Rights Lawyer – Conrad Lynn.
