60 Minutes

Being a leader provides many rewarding experiences like seeing a team achieve success or working with outstanding individuals dedicated to the mission of an organization. There are, however, less pleasant responsibilities for leaders and one of those is having difficult conversations. For organizations to be successful, expectations must be stated, and standards met.  When that isn't happening, it is leaders who have the responsibility to have 'the talk' with people whose performance is not up to par.  It is a conversation that is difficult as it is challenging to find the right approach and words to turn a poor performer into a stellar one.

When handled well, however, difficult conversations can facilitate the necessary dialogue between leadership and employees. This program will offer research-based, practice-proven strategies that will not just help make the conversation easier for leaders, but also more successful.  Topics will include:

-The negative and positive aspects of difficult conversations

-Using conversational mapping to have a successful difficult conversation

      -Providing critical feedback effectively

-Seven steps to a successful difficult conversation
