A Fortune 50 computer manufacturer gains efficiency and proficiency while auditing and collecting site data to launch a new tool.

SITUATION
A leading computer hardware manufacturer purchased a new data center/network infrastructure management tool and needed to upload their IT device data before other high priority projects could move forward. Our client required audits of a variety of devices at 34 sites, across 20 states and in four different time zones. The audit included 2,400 servers, routers, switches, firewalls, gateways, and various other power distribution equipment for data accuracy and cataloging prior loading these devices into the new tool.

SOLUTION

In order to reduce travel time and costs and speed up the site review work, we leveraged our unique deployment model to build three teams of two site surveyors in strategic locations across the U.S. These teams performed site reviews including a Nlyte audit. Each device and rack was cataloged in detail, including pictures and creation of high-level schematics for each room. Initially, we had one run a pilot of five sites that allowed our team to fine tune level of effort estimates per site. Based on discoveries during the pilot phase we were able to more easily identify and verify product information than the client had thought possible. This allowed us to reduce time for audits and provide best practices to our client for future audit.

Project Completed 16% Under Budget

RESULT

Over the course of 14 weeks we surveyed 291 racks within 72 data and network rooms containing nearly 2,400 devices. We completed the project on time and on budget allowing our client to move to allow their other initiatives to move forward. Due to our national reach we were able to provide local teams across the country, keeping travel costs and time to a near zero. Our fit for purpose teams yielded process efficiencies. We provided the client with standardized approach and best practices for each site, shared via a weekly status call. The project was completed on time and 16% under budget.
