Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced IACUC coordinator to join our team as part of the Animal Resources Department. This role will directly support the activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Animal Resources Department, both critical components in maintaining a successful Program. This is a contract role administered through Apex Systems. This position will report into the Sr. Manager, IACUC Administration and Compliance. 

Candidates are expected to assist in maintaining documentation and coordinating activities to ensure that the institution is in compliance with international, federal, and state/local regulations governing the use of animals in research, teaching and testing. Candidates must have strong interpersonal skills and work collaboratively with a diverse audience to meet goals in a compassionate and sensitive manner. Sensitivity to confidentiality is mandatory in this position. It is mandatory for candidates to demonstrate a high degree of integrity and ethics, be committed to quality, and champion continued improvements and innovation in the field of lab animal science. Candidates are also expected to provide general administrative services to the department, while working in a small, busy office and provide excellent customer service to meet performance expectations. 

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining and filing IACUC and compliance related documents
  • Assisting with documentation of IACUC activities and communication associated with routine inspections and audits
  • Troubleshooting database and/or animal facility access issues and communicating issues to the appropriate program access managers
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a related science field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education/experience in laboratory animal research
  • Familiarity with in-vivo/animal study terminology and disease modeling
  • Must have proven ability to use sound judgment and analytical skills, including the experience to determine when to refer situations/issues to management.
  • Successful experience using multiple technical applications including database management, spreadsheets, presentation software, word processing, electronic calendar, email, etc.
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of federal/state laws and accreditation requirements governing the use of animals in research
  • Experience in an IACUC or compliance office environment is preferred
  • PRIM&R CPIA certification or eligibility to sit for exam within 1 year is preferred
  • AALAS LAT, or LATG certification preferred
