Apex Systems is a global IT services provider and our staffing group has an opening for a Finance VP to place at our client, an Enterprise Banking Client.

About Finance

The Finance department covers Financial Control, Product Control, Cost Management, Business Performance and Analytics, COO Team, Tax, and Treasury. Financial Control Canada is responsible for the preparation of statutory, regulatory, tax, treasury, audit, and management reports for our banking client.

Overall purpose of role

The Financial Control VP will be responsible to manage the financial accounts and local

regulatory reporting, MIS, and tax compliance. In addition, the VP will manage capital &

liquidity reporting and monitoring as well as local statutory audit requirements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage month end and quarter end closing activities including review journal entry postings;
  • bank reconciliation, and financial statements preparation
  • Perform fundamental analytics of financial statements and associated reporting schedules
  • prior to submission to CFO review
  • Lead the implementation of new, and adherence to IFRS and regulatory requirements,
  • including researching and providing guidance to businesses on accounting and regulatory
  • issues
  • Manage the preparation & lodgement of various regulatory returns to IIROC, OSFI, OSC, CRA
  • (CORP, HST/GST etc.) plus statutory reporting requirements
  • Lead the development, implementation and enhancements of internal controls, and ensure
  • adherence to Barclays policies and standards
  • Manage the relationships and lead the team during external as well as internal audits and
  • regulatory examinations, and manage the outcome
  • Manage quarter end and year end reporting schedules for the Financial Reporting group,
  • Regulatory Reporting group, and Treasury
  • Lead the preparation of Board of Directors materials, including business performance
  • analysis, asset, earnings and capital forecasts
  • Present, communicate and manage finance and business issues to CFO and business
  • managers
  • Lead and manage the response to and/or implementation of changes in regulatory
  • environment
  • Provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to finance professionals through hiring, on[1]going coaching/development and retaining talent
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

  • Liaise with Product Control Group, Operations, Regulatory Reporting, Treasury, and Tax
  • group on daily/month end
  • Liaise with auditors during their examination of the relevant business lines
  • Escalate any issues to line-manager and senior management that may have an adverse affect
  • on the department’s ability to accurately perform financial reporting

Decision-making and Problem Solving

  • Keep up-to-date knowledge of technical IFRS accounting, Canadian tax, and regulatory
  • reporting requirements (IIROC and OSFI) to better understand the Canada Finance
  • deliverables
  • Proven analytic, and problem solving skills, with the ability to analyze and develop unique
  • solutions to highly complex business issues
  • Cross- training in the department to minimize risk to the organization

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance
  • Qualified CA/CPA/CGA
  • 8+ years of experience with financial statements reporting, auditing, and controls
  • 8 + years of experience with regulatory returns to IIROC, OSFI, statutory reporting, and, CRA
  • (T2, HST/GST)
  • Knowledge of banking products, and their regulatory requirements, is required
