Senior Business Analyst (Direct Investing)

Apex Systems is a global IT services provider and our staffing practice has an opening for a Senior Business Analyst with domain experience in Direct Investing platforms, working with business Product Owner and Technology stakeholders to define technology backlogs, requirement gathering, and knowledge of Agile SDLC cycle place at our client, a top Financial Institution. 

Terms: 12-month contract (possibility for extension/conversion)

Location: Downtown Toronto (currently 2 days onsite work required)

This Senior Business Analyst position will be part of an Agile team responsible for creating a new innovative direct investing platform for clients. They will help create/lead requirements, and work with both the business and technology partners to deliver on the roadmap for the new platform.


  • Develop plans and accurate estimates for completion of requirements, continuously improving the level of detail and accuracy of estimates
  • Lead business requirement elicitation sessions with stakeholders to document high and detailed level business systems requirements specifications
  • Define, document and translate business requirements into detailed functional specifications, taking into account non-functional requirements
  • Build and maintain a repository of reusable requirements documentation to support future initiatives, following the enterprise standards
  • Responsible for creating, refining, and maintaining user stories with an emphasis on defining business value and acceptance criteria
  • Contribute to project management activities such as: scoping and estimating project efforts, identifying key risks and recommending mitigation measures, communicating activity status, as well as escalating and communicating possible issues.
  • Assist testing teams in translating requirements and use cases into test conditions and expected results for product, performance, user acceptance, and operational acceptance testing
  • Respect existing processes and standards including requirements management and project management disciplines, technology delivery and business technology architecture, escalating issues as needed
  • Support the development of the end-user documentation and training
  • Manage risks, assumptions, and constraints for requirements, and communicate to appropriate parties
  • Participate in agile development activities and all agile ceremonies

Key Qualifications:

  • 8+ years’ working experience as a Business Analyst in financial services/Wealth Management industry
  • Experience working with Direct Investing platforms
  • Experience working on projects that involve heavy amounts of data conversion 
  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or equivalent
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, with proven ability to work well with developers, architects, testers and business partners
  • Experience in requirements planning and prioritization, including stakeholder analysis and effort estimation and requirements elicitation techniques such as Document analysis, facilitated workshops
  • Requirements analysis and documentation such as Scope Modelling, Business Process Modelling, Use Cases and Scenarios, Data mapping specifications
  • Requirements management and communication – requirements walkthroughs; scope and change management; traceability; configuration management, Backlog Management
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Proficient with Epics, user stories, Scrum, Kanban, retrospectives, team planning and other related Agile techniques.
