Apex Systems is looking for a Network Engineer to support one of our government clients in Crystal City, VA. All candidates must have TS-SCI Clearance, CompTIA SEC+ certification, and CCNA certification.

Typical responsibilities for this position include installation and servicing of multiple sites in and around the D.C. area, as well as administration and engineering Enterprise Level Solutions for LAN, WAN, VOIP, and Systems/Network infrastructures.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Network Engineer with a wide range of knowledge, evaluates, designs, documents, installs, implements, tests, performs problem isolation and resolution, monitors, tunes and sets standards. Maintain a complex range of computer network components and systems. Provide client consulting and training on the interfacing and use of the network facilities. Plans and coordinates computer network initiatives. Researches, evaluates and recommends new computer network equipment and technologies. Devise solutions to operational problems within the capacity and operational limitations of installed equipment. Provide internal consulting, technical guidance, information and support to application developers, computer operations, workstation support, company management and departmental clients. Works with other network professionals as directed to coordinate efforts, resolve cross-team issues and communicate changes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Provide enterprise level support and monitoring for the organizations JWICS, SIPRNet, and NIPRNet, networks. This would include performing configuration, administration, troubleshooting and support of Cisco networking devices, VoIP/Video, and encryption devices.  Oversee implementation of systems specifications; integration, testing, and documentation are a key part of the role. Exhibit strong technical skills related to numerous networking technologies including but not limited to: routing protocols, route redistribution, route filtering, virtual route forwarding, Multicast, QoS, NBAR, GRE tunnels, Layer 2/3 switching, interVLAN routing, NAT, VPNs, Spanning Tree, standard/extended ACLs, TACACS, SolarWinds, Forward Networks, Splunk, and encryption devices. Additional responsibilities include auditing of network/system devices to ensure standards compliance, building mobile communications packages, and working on projects.

  • Core Routing and Switching: EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, GRE tunnels, InterVLAN routing, redistribution, ACLs, Multicast, QoS, NBAR, NAT, VPN, Layer 2/3 switching, HSRP, Spanning Tree
  • Supplement Routing and Switching: TACACS, VoIP (Cisco Call Manager), 802.1x (Cisco ISE), monitoring solutions (Solarwinds/Forward Networks/Splunk), encryption devices (KG175, KG250, etc)
  • CCNP or equivalent certification preferred, CCNA or equivalent certification required
  • Data Center and Virtualization Technology experience a plus
  • ITIL 4 Foundation certification preferred
  • Competent to work at a high technical level on all phases of network operations
  • Good communications skills; shows tact, effective listening skills and follow through
  • Can effectively deliver training; possess good consulting skills
  • May be required to provide clear and effective direction to less experienced staff
  • Must be able to evaluate network performance and interact with users to solve complex problem
  • Detail oriented and organized; able to understand network evaluation criteria and be exact in assessments
  • Must closely follow network protocols and methodology
  • May review the work of others and be able to detect errors or needed modifications
  • DODD 8570 compliant I.E. Sec+
  • Able to work independently with little to no supervision
  • Competent to work at a technical level on all phases of network design activities
  • Excellent communication skills; shows tact, effective listening skills and follow through
  • Anticipates questions and is prepared with answers
  • Intermediate understanding of Windows Server/Client administration
  • Must be a consummate professional in both demeanor and attire
  • Able to create and maintain network diagrams
  • Excellent cable management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Intermediate knowledge of Active Directory and Permission Groups
  • Detail oriented and organized; able to understand information systems and ensure accuracy of work
