Apex Systems is working with a progressive, global leader in the coatings industry who is growing and planning for their future.  We are looking for a Process Engineer . This position is located in the Greater Philadelphia area.

Ideal candidates will have a BS in Engineering with a 'Can-do Attitude' and 1-3 years of experience.

Process Engineer

Summary Job Description:

This position provides basic process engineering and development support to the manufacturing operation, ensuring a high standard of support for the product lines, and helping to identify optimum processing solutions with attention to Safety, Health and Environment, cost, and product quality.

Essential Functions:

  • Participates in the planning of key projects
  • Initiates work and as necessary, participates on teams to address process-related issues
  • Works closely with Technical Service to provide timely and thorough resolution of complex complaints, interpret customer requirements and develop new processes to meet customers’ needs
  • Communicates with production staff to ensure current practices and methods are clearly defined.
  • Trains plant operators as needed
  • Assists with troubleshooting current processes and making improvements to equipment. Identifies issues with processes and equipment, coordinates repairs/upgrades/modifications, and assists implementations.
  • Participates in the development of new processes or methods for producing products that improve yields or quality and meet SHE requirements
  • Conducts process equipment trials at vendor’s facilities as needed
  • Addresses off-quality manufacturing process concerns through root cause problem solving and implements sustainable corrective actions
  • Prepares trial plans and formal reports for trials.
  • Coordinates semi-works or production trials as necessary to better understand the process, formulations, or development needs for new products
  • Using SPC, monitors process performance data in terms of yield and quality and strives toward continuous improvement of results.
  • Participates in monthly Process Engineering meetings, providing monthly highlights to appropriate plant personnel, and providing specific process reports as required
  • Troubleshoots current processes and makes improvements to equipment
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • BS degree in mechanical or chemical engineering preferred, or related field
  • 0-3 years of process development or applicable engineering experience
  • Intermediate computer skills, MS Office, SPC, DOE and statistical knowledge required, Access a plus
  • Lean manufacturing experience is preferred
  • Excellent problem solving, communication skills, both oral and written, influencing and teambuilding skills, self-starter, able to work autonomously
