Job Description:

Apex Systems is seeking is a Nondestructive Evaluation Engineer to support the Midwest Nondestructive Evaluation and Fleet Support team in Berkeley, MO.  We are looking for a broad range of experience including Associate or Experienced NDE/NDT Engineers.

The Midwest Nondestructive Evaluation and Fleet Support (MNFS) team is part of the Advanced Production and Inspection group.  They are an engineering team responsible for supporting pre-production, current production, and post-production aircraft along with space and missile programs.

The team works on commercial and defense aircraft. More specifically, the team develops and productionizes advanced NDI methods such as computed tomography and shearography. The team performs qualifications of new materials, creates advanced inspection methods, and develops inspection acceptance criteria for complex metallic or composite structures. The team also conducts research and development for both internal and external customers.  Our team is located in three locations: Huntsville, AL, Oklahoma City, OK, and Berkeley, MO. Candidates can sit in any of those sites, but the role will be 100% onsite.

The candidate will work in a team environment to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of varying scope and complexity. The candidate will be expected to work under the general supervision of a Technical Leader and will support various projects, including research, test, development and implementation. With this in mind, there will be times when business travel will be required (10%). Position Responsibilities:

  • Apply nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods/approaches, such as acoustic, electromagnetic, thermal, optical and radiologic principles, in developing new and novel methods/approaches to address affordability and supportability objectives

  • Develop new sensor technology and testing systems for nondestructive evaluation (NDE) applied to manufacturing and support areas

  • Define requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and maintenance of products and approve their use

  • Lead development of specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes

  • Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations

  • Evaluate emerging technologies for potential application to address business needs

  • Leads development, validation and qualification of new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements

  • Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements

  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements

  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas

  • Supports the Team Lead and work statement, assist defining strategies and/or provides consultation

 

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 1+ years of engineering work experience or equivalent combination of technical education and experience

  • Ability to travel at least 10% domestically

 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics

  • Experience with nondestructive evaluation processes (e.g., ultrasonic testing, radiography, eddy current testing, and penetrant inspection)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience working in multi-discipline teams, a strong desire to work with technical and non-technical customers

  • Experience with project management tools

  • Excellent time management skills to manage several simultaneous projects effectively and across various geographical locations

 

Typical Education/Experience:

Associate (Level 2)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

 

Experienced (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
