Deployment Engineer

Apex Systems is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support one of the largest retailers in the country. This is a cutting edge automation and robotics project, being implemented in hundreds of stores nationwide.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four years of experience in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field.
  • Must be available and willing to travel > 75% in North America as needed and remain on customer sites for several weeks at a time.
  • Ability to work in a variety of physical surroundings (i.e., Ladders, walkways, catwalks, elevated areas, etc.)
  • Strong engineering acumen, able to follow technical instructions and to assemble or test assemblies.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions with a variety of groups, including Software and Systems Engineering, Operations, and Senior Management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience using Linux/Unix environment.
  • Experience and proficiency in Automated system and software-based controls.
  • Experience with Deployment and Test Process.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously.
  • Familiar with common types of sensors, motors, and other common automation components. Expected to have a working understanding of how they work, and common failure modes.
  • Experience resolving complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Provisioning and Site Commissioning activities.
  • Create project plans, and test & validation plans based on uniqueness of each install.
  • Manage system testing and provide updates to stakeholders on the project status.
  • Conduct Customer Acceptance Testing based on the criteria from the Deployment Orders.
  • Develop Test Plan playbooks to standardize testing. 
  • Troubleshoot all Robotic, Workstation, and Structure issues.
  • Implement any recommendations from Alert Support team.
  • Perform any engineering recommended upgrade or rework during site launch.
  • Assist with training of junior engineers, Maintenance Technicians and Ops Trainers.
  • During Site Ramp, and after go-live, manage system operations and resolve system issues as necessary.
  • Execute performance and customer acceptance-testing to ensure system meets the deployment order criteria.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and move totes up to 49 pounds each.
  • Regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching both below the waist and above the head.
  • Lifting parts and tools weighing on average 20 pounds, occasionally weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Engage in full manual dexterity in both hands and wrists
  • Ability to climb ladders and gangways safely and without limitation
  • Continual standing and/or walking an average of 2 miles daily
