                               Senior Research Associate (In-Vivo)
Apex Systems is a large staffing and consulting firm and we are looking for a Senior Research Associate with 3+ years experience with animal handling & procedures, in-vivo domain, and knowledge of GMPs for one of our biotech clients in Toronto.

Contract/Perm & duration: 6-month contract (strong possibility of extension and/or conversion to full-time)
Location: Toronto
This position will be working 100% onsite as lab work is required.
Our client is seeking a talented and highly motivated full-time Senior Research Associate to join the In Vivo Cardiology group. As a member of the team, the candidate will contribute to the on-going small and large animal studies. As a member of the team, the candidate will conduct animal studies evaluating safety, efficacy, and pharmacokinetics of human PSC cell-derived therapies. The candidate will have opportunities to be part of developing a novel cell-based therapy and bringing the regenerative medicine to those who are suffering with intractable diseases.   • Leads, with minimal supervision, in vivo experiments on large and small animal models, including vascular access port implantation, thoracotomy, cell delivery, and implant surgeries.
  • Perform routine procedures, such as health monitoring, blood collection, drug administration, necropsy, and tissue collection.
  • Work with cross-functional product development team members to assess novel cell therapy delivery technologies.
  • Assist with interfacing with vivarium management to facilitate an efficient and productive working environment.
  • Assist in collecting and organizing study documentation from multiple researchers, such as notes, observations, and data, and enter into a central database
  • Work with team members to develop and improve techniques, tools, and study designs; assist in updating standard operating procedures and protocols.
  • Record and maintain accurate research documentation and perform analyses to identify non-conforming data points. Prepare written summaries of data for peer review.
  • Contribute to the development of novel assays and adaptation of existing assays to comply with standards required of preclinical in vivo studies.
  • Set priorities to meet critical deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Train staff at contract research organization partners and collaborators in the execution of critical procedures
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field is required, and MSc preferred 
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate life sciences experience is required. 
  • An advanced degree relevant to this position with less post-graduate work experience will also be considered.
  • Hands-on experience performing surgeries, dosing, and blood collection procedures on immunocompromised large or small animal model is required.
  • Experience with cardiac models in large animals and rodents is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of good documentation practices required in a preclinical environment is desirable, including ability to independently draft standard operating procedures.
  • Comfort using various software programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), documentation management software (SharePoint, Benchling), image analysis software, and statistical analysis software is ideal.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to draft technical reports and present data clearly and concisely
  • Experience in immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence of paraffin embedded sections is recommended
