Job Description:

Apex Systems has an immediate opening for a excellent entry-level career opportunity for recent graduates in the Food Science, Food, & Beverage or Engineering discipline to get their “foot in the door” with a great local company! Internship experience within food manufacturing/QA, GMP regulated environments supporting Quality, Food Safety or Manufacturing is preferred (not required).
Position: QA Specialist (Food Science, Quality, Food Safety, Beverages, Sensory) 

Contract: 6 month contract

Location: Landover, MD

Start Date: ASAP

Afternoon Shift: 2pm-12am

You will be held accountable for:

  • Evaluate finished goods line samples that are brought to the lab by running tests for color, moisture, breakage, grind and residual oxygen; do visual check of packaging and code date. Give feedback to operators.
  • Prepare samples for tasting by roasting, grinding, set up cups, pouring water.  Taste samples and evaluate against standards
  • Test samples for moisture, density and evaluate grade; input approval in Roasting Control Room.
  • Check on product quality on production lines and in the processing department. Investigate any quality issue or defective product in the Plant. Find product and inspect, coordinate with supervisors.
  • Communicate with operations team to resolve issues either through meetings or by tracing problems to their root cause in the Plant.
  • Instrument set up, calibration and support
  • Data Entry
  • Clean up after cupping by washing cups, loading and unloading dishwasher
  • Project work: data analysis, procedure writing, etc. (mainly desk work)
  • Participate in new product development/sensory evaluation


  • Bachelors degree 
  • Lab experience
  • Working proficiency with Microsoft PC-based computing skills 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and show initiative
