Apex Systems is excited to announce our Grants for Good 2023 Q4 winner: Baller Dream Foundation.

Each quarter, Apex Systems’ Grants for Good program awards a nonprofit organization a grant.

It’s an important way for our consultants, clients, and Apex to contribute to nonprofits and positively impact the communities where we live, serve, and work.

We are proud to announce our 2023 Q4 Grants for Good winner is Baller Dream Foundation.

The Awarded Organization

Baller Dream Foundation provides financial and emotional support to pediatric and young adult cancer patients as they navigate treatment, remission, and beyond. The nonprofit’s offerings include major gifting, in-hospital programming, community events, financial resources, and mentorship.

Formed as a national organization in 2018, BDF’s hub is in Arizona and serves additional areas across the country, including California, Alabama, Nevada, and New York.

The kids and young adults fighting cancer are referred to as ballers to convey the bravery, courage, and resilience they embody every day.

A unique aspect of BDF is that it serves young adults up to the age of 29, helping to fill a gap as many organizations cease assistance once a patient turns 18.

Baller Dream Foundation builds relationships that last beyond treatment or a single gift experience.

Their programming aims to create an environment where all ballers and their families feel a sense of belonging, support, and community.

As the website states, “Our intention is for each family to realize they are not alone in their fight against cancer. Giving hope to children and families is our goal.”

“Our intention is for each family to realize they are not alone in their fight against cancer.”

Who Nominated Them and How They Are Involved

Lisa Kincaid, a client who has worked with Apex for over a year, nominated Baller Dream Foundation for the grant.

She originally got involved several years ago because her niece was a recipient of the program.

Lisa is now an ambassador for the organization and helps with fundraising events on a national level.

How Contributions and Volunteerism Make an Impact

In today’s evolving world, nonprofits are often affected by financial regulations, compliance, reporting, and increased competition for donors and volunteers.

According to a LinkedIn Pulse article, “Nonprofit organizations play a vital role in our society, providing essential services…and making our communities better and stronger. However, they’re sometimes the most vulnerable to shifts and trends, and the first industry…to face challenges that could threaten their future.”

Donations, volunteers, and grants can all help nonprofits so they can continue making a difference in the community.

In the case of Baller Dream Foundation, the funds are incredibly helpful, as 80% of families who are referred to BDF fall below a $90,000 annual household income threshold, and most single-parent recipients fall below $35,000.

Recipients and their families are eligible for financial relief to help mitigate non-medical related costs, like rent, hotels, transportation, and more.

BDF relies heavily on engaged, active local donors and volunteers to keep supporting ballers and their families.

If you’re interested in donating, volunteering, or learning more about BDF, visit their website, Facebook, or Instagram profile.
