Everforth Apex is thrilled to announce that Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) has been selected as a 2026 Q2 Grants for Good winner.

Each quarter, Everforth Apex’s Grants for Good program awards a $1,250 grant to two nonprofits—one nominated by our external consultants or clients and the other by our Everforth Apex employees. Both are selected through nominations reviewed by our Global Charity Committee to support the organizations’ missions and causes.

It is an important way for our consultants, clients, and Everforth Apex to contribute to nonprofits and positively impact the communities where we live, serve, and work.

We are proud to announce that one of our two recipients of the 2026 Q2 Grants for Good award is Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA).

About Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA)

Huntington’s disease is a rare, hereditary neurological condition that affects a person’s motor skills, cognition, and emotional health. Often described as a combination of ALS, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s, the disease currently has no cure and impacts not only individuals, but entire families.

The Huntington’s Disease Society of America is the leading national nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by Huntington’s disease through:

  • Research, to advance treatments and work toward a cure
  • Family services, including social workers, support groups, and crisis resources
  • Education and awareness, helping communities better understand and recognize the disease
  • Advocacy, giving families a voice and access to critical resources

Through partnerships with institutions like Vanderbilt Medical Center, HDSA has helped establish Centers of Excellence that bring specialized care closer to home for families, reducing the distance and barriers to accessing expert support.

Abby’s Story: Turning Personal Experience into Purpose

For Abby Kirkpatrick, an Everforth Apex employee, HDSA’s mission is deeply personal. Huntington’s disease has had a profound impact on her family. She lost both her mother and aunt to the disease, and several other relatives carry the Huntington’s gene. Growing up with this reality inspired Abby’s passion for service, advocacy, and supporting communities affected by the disease.

Over the past five years, Abby has been actively involved with HDSA, contributing more than 50 volunteer hours. Her involvement includes:

  • Serving as a board member
  • Volunteering with fundraising, planning, and community outreach
  • Supporting Huntington’s disease research at Vanderbilt
  • Stepping into a leadership role as Chair of the HDSA Walk in Nashville

Abby’s commitment reflects more than volunteerism, it reflects resilience, compassion, and a desire to ensure families affected by Huntington’s disease feel seen, supported, and empowered.

"Creating visibility and awareness is incredibly important. So many people have never heard of Huntington’s disease, yet it affects every aspect of a family’s life." - Abby Kirkpatrick

How HDSA Supports the Community

HDSA’s impact is far-reaching and deeply human. Contributions help fund:

  • Critical research, including emerging approaches that may one day prevent Huntington’s disease from being passed on to future generations
  • Support for families in crisis, especially those facing financial and insurance challenges due to the rarity of the disease
  • Local community programs, with funds raised through initiatives like the HDSA Walk staying directly within the community they serve

Because Huntington’s disease is often referenced as a “family disease,” HDSA’s work focuses not only on patients but also on caregivers, providing education, emotional support, and advocacy when families need it most.

There are many meaningful ways to get involved with the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA). You can volunteer with a local chapter, take part in community events such as Team Hope Walks, advocate for the HD community by contacting lawmakers through HDSA’s HD Day of Action, or support research efforts by enrolling in clinical research platforms like HD Trialfinder
