Level Up Your Communication and Collaboration - “The secret skill you have been waiting for.”
In this highly interactive and fun session, Kupe, an improvisational actor, focuses on key improvisation lessons that will help you be a more attentive and flexible team member. You will walk away with lessons to help you suspend judgment, keep conversations moving forward, listen generously, and take collaboration to new levels. This will not be your average webinar where you sit back and listen. With Kupe’s Project management, Business Analysis and business background, he will be able to help you directly apply these skills on the job.

Why is this so important? The speed of business today requires teams to decide fast, learn fast and gain buy-in from all stakeholders involved. In Daniel Pink’s book, To Sell is Human: The Surprising Truth About Moving Others, he highlights improv skills as a necessary competency for everyone. This quote sums it up. “In improv, you never try to get someone to do something. That’s coercion, not creativity,” Salit says. “You make offers, you accept offers— and a conversation, a relationship, a scene, and other possibilities emerge.” Your role is to help move others to accomplish agreed upon goals. Using the Improv Advantage, your job gets easier!

Speaker Bio:
Kupe Kupersmith possesses over 15 years of experience in software systems development. He has served as the lead Business Analyst and Project Manager on projects in the Energy, television and sports management and marketing industries. Additionally, he serves as a mentor for business analysis professionals. Kupe is a Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP®).

Kupe is the co-author of Business Analysis for Dummies and is a requested speaker. Being a trained improvisational comedian, Kupe is sure to make you laugh while you’re learning. For a feel for Kupe’s view on business analysis topics check out his blog on BA Times. Kupe is a connector and has a goal in life to meet everyone!

Title: End-to-End Troubleshooting for SQL Server
Alias: FIRE! A Fullproof Checklist for Tuning and Troubleshooting

Level: 300

Abstract: Learning how to detect, diagnose and resolve performance problems in SQL Server is tough.  Often, years are spent learning how to use the tools and techniques that help you detect when a problem is occurring, diagnose the root-cause of the problem, and then resolve the problem.

In this session, attendees will see demonstrations of the tools and techniques which make difficult troubleshooting scenarios much faster and easier, including:

• XEvents, Profiler/Traces, and PerfMon
• Using Dynamic Management Views (DMVs)
• Advanced Diagnostics Using Wait Stats
• Reading SQL Server execution plan

Every DBA needs to know how to keep their SQL Server in tip-top condition, and you’ll need skills the covered in this session to do it.

Prerequisites: Intermediate database administration and development skills, especially competence with SSMS.

Goal 1: Learn the "sieve" method of troubleshooting and problem solving, and how to make SQL Server alert you when problems arise.

Abstract:
You might be starting to hear more about RPA (i.e. Robotic Process Automation) and how it’s becoming one of the “hottest skills and trends” in the market, and it’s relation to Cognitive Computing, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. However, there are many questions on RPA technology and how it can be implemented and leveraged to successfully help business processes!  During this webinar, Edward Brooks, the Founder of the RPA Academy, will focus on:
1. What is RPA and how can companies use it to improve business processes?
2. Different RPA vendors and nuances of each of the major vendors/RPA tools
3. Case studies of how 2-3 different companies are using RPA technology
4. Additional best practices for selecting RPA tool/tech and using effectively
5. Training resources for learning more about RPA

About the Speaker:
Trained as a CPA in London, worked as a consultant in Outsourcing and Shared Services, designing, selling, implementing and running deals. Came into the RPA sector by accident, thinking that this was just a no-brainer - people would just adopt it and move on. Then started to work with clients who were looking at Robotics, AI, Watson, etc. and recognized the real challenges they were facing - on the strategy, technology, change management and skills fronts. So, based in New York, established The RPA Academy to make it easy and affordable for anyone to train in RPA.

Abstract:
Let’s face it.  You can effectively do many IT jobs related to SQL Server without knowing the internals of how SQL Server works.  Many great developers, DBAs, and designers get their day-to-day work completed on time and with reasonable quality while never really knowing what’s happening behind the scenes.  But if you want to take your skills to the next level, it’s critical to know SQL Server’s internal processes and architecture.  This session will answer questions like:
- What are the various areas of memory inside of SQL Server?
- How are queries handled behind the scenes?
- What does SQL Server do with procedural code, like functions, procedures, and triggers?
- What happens during checkpoints?  Lazywrites?
- How are IOs handled with regards to transaction logs and database?
- What happens when transaction logs and databases grow or shrinks?

This fast paced session will take you through many aspects of the internal operations of SQL Server and, for those topics we don’t cover, will point you to resources where you can get more information.  So strap on your silly, as we cover all these topics and more at speed with tongue planted firmly in cheek!

Prerequisites: Basic understanding of SQL Server operations and activities – such as transactions, queries, and preventative maintenance tasks like backup and recovery.

Goal 1: Learn about the major components within the SQL Server architecture, starting with the relational engine and storage engine, working down to greater and greater detail.

Goal 2: See what happens inside the SQL Server query optimizer and how the query optimizer affects transaction execution time, both read-only and read-write transactions

Goal 3: Review the major operational processes inside of SQL Server that affect memory management and IO activity.

War Stories on Embedded Security: Pentesting, IoT, Building Managers, and how to do Better
If security were easy, we’d have solved it 20 years ago. Unfortunately for complex networks and systems, we need the basics and more: developer training, correct implementation, cross-training, proper deployment, event monitoring, secure updates, and response planning. It’s a tall order. But with the right partners, it’s possible. Come be entertained and encouraged by Dr. DeMott as he shows some epic fails - that could have been wins.

You'll find fingerprints of VDA across the InfoSec community: fuzzing, code auditing, exploitation, incident response, malware analysis, pentests, threat intelligence, and security training. When DeMott isn’t leading a project, or bypassing a security control, he’s enjoying time with his family outdoors.

Get Reactive with RxJS
Functional Reactive Programming is gaining traction. Reactive programming starts where functional programming leaves us—to make use of lazy evaluations and function composition to create highly responsive and reliable applications. What does RxJS offer from the point of view of reactive programming, where is it used, and how can you apply it for your projects? This presentation will answer those question, but not in theory, but by way of showing practical examples of RxJS in use.

Once Upon a Time: The Business Analyst Storyteller
Would you agree that requirements need to be clearly understood? It seems logical, right? What about memorable? That’s right, I said memorable, not measurable. Yes of course they should be measurable but that becomes meaningless if they are not first, memorable. So why is it that more Business Analysts don’t tell requirements stories? The most effective communicators tell stories – they ensure things are memorable and clearly understood. The Business Analyst should be the best communicator on the team given the sheer volume of requirements, plus all of the additional things that support the requirements like how we got there to begin with, the business case, the value proposition, business rules, and more. What is that you say? You are Agile? Then you better ramp up those storytelling skills!

Come join Bob the BA to learn what makes up a compelling requirements story. Stories that are memorable, contagious, interesting, and ensure the requirements are clearly understood. Learn the structure, how emotions play into the story, how to hold your stakeholder’s interest, how improvisation and the art of surprise can enhance the story and keep it relevant for your audience. Did you hear the one about the non-functional requirement looking for the functional requirement in all the wrong places? Probably not, but it sounds like there is a great story in there somewhere that needs to be told. What’s your story?

The functional programming additions in Java 8, which include lambda expressions, method references, and streams, make Java feel like a completely new language. Java 9 then adds in the Java Platform Module System, which changes how code is organized and distributed. Such fundamental modifications to a language with 20 years of backward compatibility issues can feel disorienting, to say the least. This talk will review the new recommended approaches for writing Java. The focus will be on understanding why the modifications were done and how best to react to them in the future.

Abstract - *Yes, You Can Become Cloud-Native. Here's How.*
Your company has to become good at software. There's no other choice. But is it really possible for established enterprises to look like Facebook, Stripe, Uber, and Netflix? Those cloud natives recognize the importance of delivering a quality service powered by software. In this talk, we'll look at what it means to be cloud-native, and how you get there. What are microservices? How does someone "do DevOps"? What does a cloud-native application look like? How about a cloud-native platform? We'll answer these questions and more, and look at how you can really start adopting these practices in your own organization today.

Session Abstract:

Change management is nothing new to the project manager. A process for change is a standard requirement for any project large or small and having a process in place helps to manage through the many challenges of change including resistance from stakeholders. The project change process is similar to the processes of organizational change. The process must be well thought out and the effect of change anticipated. The impact of major changes within an organization can be substantial and in many cases, destructive, requiring the leaders to carefully develop their strategies for change. The main focus of that strategy is to create a change ready organization where the team members and employees understand why change is necessary, how it can affect the future, and why it is important to support and embrace change. This presentation addresses the effect of change within an organization and offers suggestions about how to plan for change, how to involve the entire organization, and how to minimize the fear and anxiety generally associated with change

Primarily we think of interviews as evaluations for if a candidate is a good fit for who we're trying to hire. But in such a hot market for IT professionals, we as hiring managers also have to put our best foot forward to attract the right talent. The impression we leave the candidate with, for better or worse, reflects on us, the position and the company.

Professor Stephen Ceci understood the importance of impressions in his classes and decided to do an experiment. He taught 2 classes exactly the same material, but used positive power body language in one of them. He hoped that at the end of the semester when he was evaluated that the students would rate him as more knowledgeable and accessible in the power body language class. When he got his results at the end of the semester, good body language did help him score better in those 2 categories. But he also scored better in ALL categories. Even the text book was rated better, even though it was only used for homework and never in lectures. There is a powerful halo effect for good or for bad, affecting how individuals see everything associated with us.

Jeff Baird, certified body language trainer will share nonverbal ninja tips on how hiring managers can represent themselves to attract good talent.

Abstract: The Project Coach: How to Stretch and Develop Others While Getting Work Done
Business coaching as evolved from fad to fundamental. Having the ability to “coach and develop others” is a necessary skill for all project managers. Bus with so much to do and so little guidance, how do project managers successfully stretch and develop others while getting the work done? Successful coaching is based on asking rather than telling, on challenging rather than giving directions and by holding a person accountable for results. This session provides a useful framework on how to get the best out of your team while getting stuff done.

Session Overview
Understand what it means to be agile. Some teams think they can be agile by using a defined process or set of practices as defined by one of the agile approaches. This is just “doing Agile.” Other teams are agile in name only – the team says it’s “doing Agile” but ends up using the same old practices and achieving the same results.
Teams adopt agile for a variety of reasons, but it’s not the process or set of practices they select that produces the results they seek. Teams are most successful when they adopt a particular mindset in order to “be agile”. Join us as we describe what it means to be agile through 7 key ideas based on how people and organizations work best. We’ll discuss some specific techniques you can use to adopt the mindset on your project, how the business analyst role changes along with the mindset, and how to help your team move from “doing Agile” to actually “being agile”.

Session Roadmap
• Understand the key ideas that form the agile mindset
• How to help your team adopt the agile mindset
• Understand how adopting the agile mindset impacts business analysts

• The importance of presentation preparation and rehearsal
• Understanding the importance of body language and eye contact
• Learning the art of storytelling
• Understanding the difference between a solo & ensemble presentations
• How to use PowerPoint effectively and not as a distraction

About Michael Weiss:
Michael has taken a bit of an unorthodox path to get to this point. Yet, storytelling has always been the backbone to whatever he chooses to do. After graduating from Boston University in 1991, he moved to Los Angeles with the dreams of being a rock star. While entertaining crowds all over the US, he took a job as a story editor and script analyst with Hollywood notables such as Quincy Jones, Jerry Bruckheimer, Arnold Kopelson and Propaganda Films. He then moved on to get his Masters in Counseling Psychology to help others tell their stories. From there he taught Life skills at the Crossroads School in Santa Monica - again focusing on helping students find their own personal stories and focus on what it meant to be a young adult. In 1997 Michael was the cofounder of imagistic - a digital agency - and was CEO for 14 years. It was during this tenure that Michael cut his teeth on digital marketing and worked with clients such as the ACLU, Hollywood.com, The Southern Poverty Law Center, Sir Speedy, Technicolor, The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, Disney, Capitol Records, California Pizza Kitchen, GE, Kellogg’s, Estee Lauder, Bank of America and UCLA.

In 2011 Michael decided it was time to go out on his own and refocus his career on storytelling. This included becoming a seasoned TEDx Talker, a Presentation Specialist and a focus on Content Marketing.

Currently Michael is the VP of Marketing at Creative Circle – the largest creative staffing agency in North America.

For most companies data-driven marketing is nothing more than tracking consumers who visit their website and responding with personalized email. The result is an endless stream of outbound emails, low response rates and eventual discounts. But today’s best digital operators are using a series of analysis to uncover ideal consumers and ideal behaviors that can be combined to maximize conversion rates, market basket value and customer lifetime value. Learn how analysis such as personality, like-kind, pattern and taxonomy can be layered to create a digital marketing program designed to increase market penetration, open new market segments and create a sales pipeline.

The office is transforming, and for many organizations, the building is now primarily a location for hot-desking. As our workforce becomes ever more mobile and even home based, corporate IT managers need to effectively manage devices and the access to corporate data from anywhere. Providing, provisioning and maintaining devices, including BYOD/CYOD scenarios, is challenging the way traditional IT operates. Andrew will outline the mobility management options currently being adopted by dynamic corporations today.

Abstract: "Loving Your Job...and Getting Others to do Likewise!"
One of the great keys to successful projects is team engagement, enthusiasm and attitude. And while that's a very personal thing, it's also something that we, as project managers (and team members, for that matter) have an extraordinary level of influence on. We can build enthusiasm or crush it like a grape. To succeed, enthusiasm and a positive attitude must be honest. And in a "first things first" perspective, Carl Pritchard examines how we can make our jobs more positive, even when they're not the ideal. He'll look at how project management can naturally feed an infectious, positive attitude, given the opportunity. And by the time you log off, you'll have three specific things you should be doing tomorrow (and a couple you're already doing) that will provide you and your team with a higher sense of hope and promise for the days ahead.

Speaker Bio:
Carl Pritchard is the principal and founder of Pritchard Management Associates. He is recognized lecturer, author, researcher, and instructor. As a lecturer he is considered a leading authority on risk and communications management and presents on a variety of management topics, ranging from project essentials to the complexities of network diagramming and team motivation. As an author and researcher, he has published articles on project management language, advances in risk management, and on the challenges of training on the Internet. His work as an instructor has taken him around the world, training with some of the leading international training organizations, as well as for private clients and the Project Management Institute®. He is the U.S. Correspondent for the U.K. project management journal, Project Manager Today.

There's been an awakening in the Web. Angular 2 has arrived and it's time to learn the key features that help you successfully build Angular 2 apps. We'll create an Angular 2 app from scratch and add components to track Star Wars characters. The data may be needed throughout the app, so we'll create a shared service and use dependency injection to access it from the components. We'll also cover accessing data via HTTP, using metadata to describe components, and the new templating and data binding concepts in Angular 2. You may not walk out a Jedi, but the you will feel the power of the force.

Abstract:
A collaborative presentation where we will share our experiences and insights on how you and your team can thrive at the intersection of critical thinking and design thinking.

There is a school of thought that business analysis is about eliciting information and defining requirements. Is this really all that analysis is about? When high performing analysis work is happening in organizations we see limited resources being utilized on initiatives which provide the greatest business outcomes. Design Thinking is an innovative approach to get your team in that high performing mode.

Experience problem solving in a different way (starting with the customer experience). Learn by doing and see design and critical thinking in action.

Session Roadmap:
1. What is Design Thinking and Critical Thinking
2. How we mythbust the thought that Design Thinking is just innovation and creativity wrapped in new package
3. How you and your team can add value to their organizations by utilizing Design Thinking
