Automation Engineer/Sr. DevOps Engineer
Job#: 3025257
Job Description:
We are seeking a hands-on Automation Engineer / Senior DevOps Engineer to help design, build, and scale automation across a modern cloud and integration environment. This role is ideal for an engineer who can do more than list Terraform, AWS, and CI/CD experience on a résumé; we are looking for someone who can clearly explain what they automated, how they built it, how it runs today, and how it improved reliability, efficiency, or delivery speed.
This engineer will focus on reducing manual operational work, strengthening Infrastructure as Code practices, improving GitLab CI/CD pipeline architecture, and supporting cloud-hosted systems across production and lower environments. The work will involve close collaboration with integration engineers, platform teams, and product stakeholders to create scalable automation standards and practical solutions across tools such as AWS, Terraform, GitLab, Ansible, CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Grafana, IBM ACE/MQ, MuleSoft, and AWS Transfer Family.
· Preferred location: Hybrid in San Francisco, CA
· Additional consideration may be given to candidates in Salt Lake City, UT or other approved district locations
· Hybrid schedule is expected to be approximately 2 to 3 days onsite per week, with specific days determined in partnership with the team
· Design, build, maintain, and improve automation solutions for infrastructure, deployment, integration, and application workflows.
· Lead Infrastructure as Code development using Terraform, including creating new modules from scratch and updating existing modules for infrastructure setup, installation, and configuration.
· Automate AWS infrastructure using Terraform, AWS CLI, Bash, Python, Shell, Perl, YAML, or similar scripting languages.
· Architect, code, and optimize GitLab CI/CD pipelines, including pipeline structure, reusable patterns, and GitLab YAML configurations.
· Identify manual tasks within existing operational processes and convert them into reliable, repeatable automation.
· Support production and non-production environments through troubleshooting, incident response, root cause analysis, and ongoing reliability improvements.
· Monitor and administer cloud-hosted applications and infrastructure using tools such as CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Grafana, or equivalent APM and observability platforms.
· Collaborate with integration engineers and platform teams to define automation standards, CI/CD best practices, and reusable patterns across multiple product teams.
· Support automation and deployment efforts for integration platforms such as IBM ACE, IBM MQ, MuleSoft, and AWS Transfer Family.
· Implement and maintain security practices in alignment with banking, enterprise, and cloud security standards.
· Document technical architectures, automation workflows, design decisions, specifications, and technology roadmaps clearly and concisely.
· Participate in on-call production support as needed.
· 7+ years of relevant experience in DevOps, automation engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or a similar technical role.
· 5+ years of experience managing or supporting complex systems using software, automation, scripting, and operational tooling.
· Hands-on experience automating AWS infrastructure using Terraform, including the ability to explain real-world examples of what was automated, how it was built, and how it currently runs.
· Strong Terraform and Infrastructure as Code experience, including writing, developing, and maintaining Terraform modules.
· Recent, demonstrable experience with GitLab pipeline architecture, GitLab YAML, and CI/CD pipeline coding and optimization.
· Ability to stitch together Terraform, AWS CLI commands, Bash scripting, and related automation tooling into working operational solutions.
· Recent AWS CLI and AWS services experience, including services such as S3, EC2, Auto Scaling Groups, ELB, SFTP, CloudFormation, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, and Lambda.
· Hands-on scripting experience with Python, Bash, Shell, Perl, YAML, or similar languages.
· Working experience with Ansible, GitLab, Terraform, CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Grafana, or equivalent tools.
· Experience supporting production systems, including incident response, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
· Strong technical documentation skills, including the ability to write clear design documents, technical specifications, architecture notes, and roadmaps.
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or another technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
· Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder with the intent to become a U.S. Citizen.
· Experience with IBM ACE, IBM MQ, MuleSoft, AWS Transfer Family, or similar integration and middleware platforms.
· Experience with microservices, integration patterns, API-based environments, or cloud-native application components.
· AWS certification or equivalent hands-on AWS experience.
· Experience applying AI tools to accelerate technical delivery, including Terraform module development, IaC implementation, CI/CD pipeline generation, scripting, documentation, and troubleshooting.
· Experience working in banking, financial services, or other highly regulated enterprise environments.
· Cloud: AWS, AWS CLI, S3, EC2, Auto Scaling Groups, ELB, SFTP, CloudFormation, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, Lambda
· Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Terraform modules, reusable IaC patterns
· CI/CD: GitLab, GitLab YAML, pipeline architecture, automated deployments
· Scripting and automation: Python, Bash, Shell, Perl, YAML
· Configuration and automation: Ansible or equivalent tools
· Monitoring and observability: CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Grafana, or equivalent APM tools
· Integration platforms: IBM ACE, IBM MQ, MuleSoft, AWS Transfer Family
· AI-enabled productivity: AI tools used to accelerate IaC, CI/CD, scripting, documentation, and troubleshooting
· You are a builder who notices repetitive manual work and turns it into scalable automation.
· You have real hands-on experience using Terraform and AWS together, not just separate exposure to each tool.
· You can clearly walk through the automation you built, why it was needed, how it was implemented, and how it is supported today.
· You are comfortable working across infrastructure, pipelines, integrations, monitoring, and production support.
· You communicate clearly with engineering teams, document your work thoroughly, and can explain technical decisions to both technical and non- technical stakeholders.
· You bring a continuous improvement mindset and are motivated by reliability, repeatability, security, and operational efficiency.
This is a strong opportunity for a senior automation and DevOps professional who wants to have a direct impact on cloud modernization, infrastructure automation, CI/CD maturity, and operational reliability. You will help shape standards, improve tooling, reduce manual work, and support critical enterprise systems in a collaborative engineering environment.
