Linux/AIX Engineer

Job#: 3026313

Job Description:

Senior AIX / Linux Engineer – Onsite | Contract‑to‑Hire

A major technology services provider supporting a large, county‑wide enterprise environment is seeking a Senior AIX / Linux Engineer for a long‑term contract‑to‑hire opportunity. This role is a critical backfill for a senior AIX engineer who was foundational to ongoing platform modernization and ERP‑related infrastructure.

This is a highly stable, mature environment with long‑standing program continuity, strong operational discipline, and multi‑year funding already secured. Engineers who enjoy deep system ownership, hands‑on troubleshooting, and supporting core enterprise platforms will thrive in this role.

Role Overview

This position is AIX‑centric, with responsibility for administering and supporting IBM AIX environments that underpin mission‑critical enterprise and ERP platforms. While the broader environment includes Red Hat Enterprise Linux, AIX expertise is the primary requirement for this role.

The ideal candidate is a true “in‑the‑trenches” engineer—someone comfortable owning complex systems end‑to‑end, troubleshooting production issues, and maintaining highly available enterprise infrastructure.

Work Model & Location
  • Onsite in Santa Ana, CA
  • Standard business hours with occasional after‑hours maintenance
  • 6‑month contract‑to‑hire
  • Long‑term program stability with multi‑year contract extension already in place

  • Manage LPARs, VIOS, storage integrations, patching, and lifecycle management
  • Perform system hardening, compliance activities, and monthly patching
  • Troubleshoot complex OS‑level, performance, and infrastructure issues
  • Support ERP‑related infrastructure and other mission‑critical enterprise platforms
  • Integrate and manage privileged access and security controls
  • Automate operational tasks using Ansible or similar tools
  • Collaborate closely with network, storage, virtualization, and application teams
  • Participate in on‑call rotations supporting high‑availability environments
  • Contribute to documentation, runbooks, and operational standards
  • Provide Linux (RHEL) support where applicable as part of the broader environment
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of hands‑on AIX administration experience in large enterprise environments. Recent experience preferred.
  • Strong experience with:
    • LPAR and VIOS management
    • AIX patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management
    • Performance tuning and deep system troubleshooting
  • Proven ability to support mission‑critical production systems

  • Hands‑on operational automation experience (Ansible or similar)
  • Comfortable operating as a hands‑on, execution‑focused engineer
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Must have lived in the U.S. for 10+ years (background requirement)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting ERP platforms or large enterprise application environments
  • Strong Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) experience
  • Familiarity with VMware or enterprise virtualization platforms
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and configuration management tools
  • Scripting experience (Bash, Python, or similar)
