Work Model: Flex On‑Site (4 days onsite / 1 day remote; 5 days onsite optional)
Contract Length: Initial 6‑month contract with a strong likelihood of extension
Rate: $60-68/hr
This Reliability Engineer role differs from traditional reliability positions. The ideal candidate is proactive and hands-on—someone who actively seeks out data, collaborates closely with cross‑functional teams, and drives reliability improvements rather than passively reporting metrics. Reliability is viewed as a shared responsibility, requiring strong partnership with design, manufacturing, and engineering stakeholders.
- Evaluate materials, components, systems, and manufacturing techniques from a reliability perspective
- Apply reliability best practices, including failure physics, accelerated testing, and scientific test design
- Develop and execute reliability test plans, FMEAs, and reliability models
- Advise design engineering on component selection, application, and testing strategies
- Recommend design, process, or test changes to improve system and product reliability
- Define reliability requirements for components and systems to meet internal, customer, and regulatory objectives
- Develop or apply acceleration techniques and analytical tools to identify reliability risks early in the product lifecycle
- Present findings and recommendations to engineering leadership and executive stakeholders (with support as needed)
- Influence design teams toward reliability improvements without direct authority
Required Knowledge:
- Reliability engineering best practices
- Applied failure physics
- Mechanical and/or electrical engineering fundamentals
- Materials science concepts
- Accelerated life testing methodologies
- Reliability test design and statistical analysis
Preferred Experience:
- Hands-on experience with electron beam (e‑beam) technology
- Experience using reliability tools such as ReliaSoft (Weibull, BlockSim) or similar modeling software
- Familiarity with reliability block modeling, FMEA, and statistical process control
- Engineering degree strongly preferred (Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, or related field)
- Formal reliability degree not required
- Minimum of 5 years of practical, hands-on reliability engineering experience preferred
- Practical experience is valued more than advanced degrees
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable influencing and collaborating across teams without direct authority
- Confident engaging with senior leaders and executives
- Outgoing, collaborative, and team-oriented mindset
- Ability to drive alignment around reliability as a shared, cross‑functional goal
- Strong preference for candidates local to the Milpitas / Santa Clara area to support collaboration and onboarding
- Advanced experience with e‑beam tools
- Deep knowledge of Weibull analysis and reliability modeling software
- Manufacturing reliability experience and familiarity with production environments
