Role Overview

This position is responsible for conducting in-depth analysis of client-reported electronic data to ensure it is accurate and timely in accordance with treaty guidelines. Operating with minimal daily direction , the role involves monitoring and communicating client issues and unusual reporting trends to appropriate stakeholders , and preparing quarterly Statutory, IFRS, and Solvency II financial reports for assigned assumed Health Solutions accounts.

This role requires a strong blend of reinsurance knowledge, financial analysis, and data-driven problem-solving , alongside advanced Excel skills and the ability to work independently across multiple systems to validate, analyze, and improve reporting processes.

Performance Allocation & Key Responsibilities

Performance in this role is structured around three primary functional areas:

1. Cash Reporting, Client Data, and Analysis (45% of Time)

  • Treaty Alignment: Develop a strong understanding of reinsurance treaty structures, terms, and guidelines (specifically for assumed Health Solutions and related retrocessions) to determine operational expectations.
  • Data Validation: Conduct detailed analysis of client-reported premium, bordereaux, and financial data, validating accuracy against treaty requirements.
  • Client Engagement: Independently investigate reporting inconsistencies, deviations, or errors, and liaise directly with clients to understand and resolve data discrepancies.
  • Balance Calculations: Calculate and analyze Experience Refunds, Loss Carryforwards, and premium-related balances to ensure alignment with treaty provisions.
  • System Logging & Trend Analysis: Accurately record details of all client reporting across multiple company business systems to ensure validity , and analyze Trend Reports for reasonability and balance checks.
  • Risk Escalation: Communicate actual or potential financial impacts, unusual trends, and business risks to stakeholders across finance, actuarial, and operations teams.

2. Statutory, IFRS, and Solvency II Financial Reporting (45% of Time)

  • Quarterly Close: Prepare and analyze quarterly Statutory, IFRS, and Solvency II financial reports for assigned reinsurance treaties.
  • Variance Analysis: Perform detailed variance analysis to explain reporting period fluctuations between actuals, prior periods, and expectations, providing clear drivers and insights.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with financial reporting, accounting, and actuarial teams during the close process to ensure amounts recorded are accurate.
  • Audit Readiness: Prepare detailed financial workpapers, schedules, and supporting documentation for internal and external auditors to substantiate compliance with local and IFRS reporting standards.

3. Audit of Problematic Accounts & Process Improvement (10% of Time)

  • Automation & Efficiency: Identify inefficiencies in current workflows and propose, design, or implement automation and process improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and turnaround time.
  • Model Customization: Build and maintain advanced Excel models and automated templates (including pivot tables and macros) to streamline calculations and validations.

Required Qualifications
Education & Compliance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or an accredited related field required.
  • Accountability for the quality, completeness, and accuracy of work , with a commitment to adhering to company policies, procedures, and rules of conduct.
Experience
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in Life, Health, or Property & Casualty (re)insurance or insurance.
  • Strong background in reinsurance accounting, financial close cycles, financial analysis, or premium reporting/analytics.
  • Proven capability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction to accomplish objectives.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required, including pivot tables, advanced formulas, data manipulation, and experience creating macros or automated reporting tools.
  • Experience working with financial and reporting systems such as SAP, Oracle, TM1, or similar platforms , alongside competency using Hyperion Reporting.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills for establishing and maintaining professional client, reinsurer, and internal relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specific business knowledge of Health and Special Risk reinsurance practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of Statutory accounting (STAT), GAAP, and IFRS (with modern IFRS 17 exposure preferred).
  • Experience analyzing very large datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and root causes.
  • Exposure to reinsurance contract modeling, participation calculations, or funds withheld structures.
  • Relevant industry professional designations.
Work Environment & Logistics
  • Workstyle: This is a full-time, remote position. Candidates must be able to work independently using standard remote office equipment (computers, phones, telepresence).
  • Travel: Minimal, estimated at less than 5%. Requires approximately one domestic trip per year with an overnight stay for periodic client visits or team meetings.
