Job Description:
Apex is hiring a Reliability Engineer to work on a year long contract in Redmond.
This group is a unique, nimble, multidisciplinary team that turns cutting-edge ideas into shipping products by composing research, incubation, rapid prototyping, and human-centered development. As part of the team, you'll directly shape experiences used by billions of people — from Windows (running on over a billion devices) to Microsoft 365 (used by 70% of Fortune 500 enterprises) and beyond.

Role Details
- 5 days/week on-site in Redmond, WA
- Role will occasionally involve going to multiple buildings on campus to pull crash logs manually, or do a factory reset.
Scope of Work & Responsibilities
Live Monitoring & Telemetry
- Continuously monitor telemetry from services, applications, and prototype devices to ensure operational health
- Observe dashboards and alerting systems, proactively identifying anomalies, performance degradation, or failures
- Analyze real-time metrics and logs to diagnose and troubleshoot issues across cloud and on-premises environments
- Provide actionable insights and communicate findings to engineering and product teams
Release & Service Operations
- Oversee software releases, validating deployments, monitoring live systems, and ensuring stability
- Track and manage service health during rollouts, ring deployments, and updates
- Debug and resolve live issues impacting services, devices, or end users
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement fixes and mitigations in near-real-time
On-Site Hardware & Environment Support
- Perform in-person troubleshooting for self-hosted or prototype devices when telemetry or dashboards indicate issues
- Assist with device configuration, deployment, and live verification
- Maintain accurate documentation of hardware configurations, operational procedures, and observed issues
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with software, QA, and infrastructure teams to ensure operational readiness and reliability
- Recommend improvements to monitoring, alerting, and operational practices
- Support incident response, post-mortems, and continuous improvement initiatives
Deliverables
- Real-time telemetry dashboards and monitoring systems with actionable alerts
- Incident reports and analysis for operational events
- Verification and stabilization reports for software releases
