Senior Project Manager (Transportation Technology / ITS)

Location: Remote — Must reside in the Greater Nashville, TN area (within ~2 hours)

Travel: Onsite presence required 1–3 days per week at client locations

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex technology and infrastructure projects supporting transportation systems. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in cross-functional environments, enjoys managing multi-phase initiatives, and can effectively partner with both technical teams and external stakeholders.

While this is a remote position, candidates must be located within the Nashville region to support regular onsite collaboration with clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead one or more project teams to successfully deliver assigned programs on time, within scope, and on budget
  • Own full project lifecycle: planning, execution, monitoring, and delivery
  • Manage project financials, schedules, risks, and quality measures
  • Define and maintain project scope aligned with contractual requirements, including change management
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets
  • Identify, track, and mitigate project risks through proactive planning
  • Ensure all deliverables meet quality standards and documentation requirements
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies (standups, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives) and track team progress
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts across engineering, testing, and business teams
  • Lead requirements gathering, design coordination, and user acceptance testing (UAT) activities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong and collaborative relationships
  • Conduct client meetings, provide project updates, and ensure alignment on deliverables
  • Identify opportunities for additional services or enhancements and partner with business stakeholders
  • Support proposals, statements of work (SOWs), and contract development
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Transportation, Electrical), Computer Science, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience managing full lifecycle IT or technology projects
  • Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum preferred)
  • Background in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) or infrastructure-related technology projects is highly preferred
  • Strong experience managing budgets, timelines, and cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with ITIL or operational management frameworks is a plus
  • PMP certification required; Scrum certification (CSM) preferred
  • Excellent communication, organization, and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven ability to lead teams and navigate complex delivery environments
Preferred Experience
  • Exposure to transportation, traffic systems, or public-sector technology programs
  • Experience supporting proposals, client presentations, and business development efforts
  • Technical background or familiarity with software development and system integrations
