Senior Field Chemist
Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Field Chemist to join our Environmental Services team. This is a hands-on, field-based role responsible for the safe handling, sorting, packaging, and transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

This position is ideal for professionals who enjoy working outside of a traditional lab setting and thrive in dynamic, customer-facing environments. You will travel to client sites, ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and play a critical role in delivering safe and efficient waste management services.

Key Responsibilities
Field Operations
  • Travel to customer sites across industrial, laboratory, and educational environments
  • Identify, sort, and segregate chemicals by hazard class
  • Perform lab packing and prepare materials for safe transportation
  • Characterize unknown or mixed waste streams onsite
  • Manage high-hazard materials, including cylinder handling
Safety & Compliance
  • Strictly adhere to all health, safety, and environmental policies
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (EPA, DOT, etc.)
  • Properly label, package, and document materials for transportation
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including manifests, LDRs, and billing documents
Logistics & Execution
  • Prepare and transport supplies needed for field projects
  • Ensure proper placarding and load segregation during transport
  • Utilize internal systems (e.g., HP system) to review waste streams and documentation
Customer Engagement
  • Communicate effectively with site contacts and stakeholders
  • Provide updates on project progress and address customer inquiries
  • Build strong, professional relationships at customer locations
Leadership & Development
  • Direct and support Field Technicians and Drivers
  • Assist in training and mentoring Field Chemist I and II team members
  • Support proposal preparation at an introductory level
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
  • In lieu of a degree: Minimum of 2+ years of related experience (required)
  • 2+ years of experience in lab packing or environmental waste (required)
Skills & Capabilities
  • Strong understanding of hazardous materials handling and safety practices
  • Ability to learn and apply environmental regulations and compliance requirements
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and lead small teams in the field
Additional Requirements
  • Valid Driver’s License (required)
  • Ability to obtain a Class B CDL with Hazmat endorsement within 6 months of hire (required)
  • Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check to company standards (required)
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and maintain safe practices at all times
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to client sites
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks as required
  • Reliable attendance and schedule flexibility

Important: Due to potential exposure to hazardous atmospheres, materials, and waste, this position requires employees to be clean-shaven at all times to ensure proper respirator fit and protection.
