Windows Endpoint Automation Engineer
Overview

This role will focus on building and operationalizing automation within Intune using code-based deployments, working closely with a DevOps engineer who owns pipeline architecture. The goal is to transition from manual “ClickOps” to Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) for endpoint management.

Core Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement automation for endpoint deployments in Intune
  • Work with DevOps engineers to:
    • Build and leverage Terraform components
    • Contribute to pipeline-based deployments (GitHub / GitHub Actions)
  • Translate endpoint requirements into code-based solutions
  • Create and manage:
    • Application deployments
    • Configuration profiles
    • Scripts and policies within Intune
  • Participate in:
    • Code reviews (PRs)
    • Repository management and version control
  • Support rollout strategy including:
    • Ring-based deployment models
    • Group alignment and governance
  • Help enable broader engineering teams by:
    • Training others on how to check in and use code-based deployments
  • Assist in troubleshooting:
    • Identify pipeline-related issues and escalate appropriately (not primary owner)
Key Use Cases (Day 1 Focus)
  • Stand up pipeline-driven deployment for:
    • Applications
    • Scripts
    • Configuration profiles into Intune
  • Establish:
    • Release workflows
    • Ring deployment strategy
  • Ensure governance to prevent misconfigurations (e.g., incorrect targeting of devices)
Required Skills
  • Strong scripting/programming experience:
    • PowerShell (must-have)
    • Python (nice-to-have)
  • Experience with:
    • Microsoft Intune (critical)
    • Endpoint management (Windows focus)
  • Familiarity with:
    • GitHub (repos, pull requests, version control)
  • Understanding of:
    • Endpoint configuration, deployments, and policy management
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Terraform experience
  • CI/CD pipeline exposure (GitHub Actions preferred)
  • Experience with modern endpoint tools:
    • Workspace ONE (contextual awareness)
  • Prior exposure to DevOps environments
Team / Structure
  • Works alongside:
    • DevOps Engineer (owns pipeline architecture)
  • Reports into:
    • Automation/Platform team being built out (~9+ roles total)
  • Cross-functional collaboration with:
    • Windows, Mac, Mobility, Entra, and VDI teams
Leveling / Target Profile
  • Target Level: S3 (flex to strong S2)
  • Ideal candidate:
    • Strong coder/scripter → S3
    • Developing automation engineer → S2 with growth potential
