Accounting Senior Analyst

Location: Portland, Oregon (Hybrid, 2 days in office)

Duration: 6 month contract, potential to extend

 

Role Overview

This position supports the company’s commitment to safe work practices and contributes to a strong team environment. The role involves participating in the month-end close process, analyzing financial results, preparing account reconciliations, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This is a hybrid position requiring two days a week in the office at the downtown Portland headquarters.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in month-end close by recording journal entries for segment activity and accruals.
  • Analyze results in comparison to budget and prior periods and provide variance explanations to Management.
  • Prepare account reconciliations and perform SOX controls to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Compile specific information for the Company’s SEC financial statement disclosures.
  • Provide support for both internal and external audits and assist with regulatory filings as needed.
  • Manage the monthly gas reserves accounting process, working with a joint venture partner to obtain and record transactions.
  • Support the annual audit of the investment and an annual reserve study, incorporating results into forecasts.
  • Prepare a monthly reporting package for Management for North Mist Gas Storage Facility accounting.
  • Work closely with the Rates team to develop an annual forecast of future costs.
  • Perform other duties and ad hoc assignments to support the department.
Required Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Accounting and a CPA certificate are required.

 

Experience: A minimum of 5 years of applied accounting experience is required.

 

Technical Skills: The role requires strong technical knowledge of US GAAP, PC skills for word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications, and a demonstrated background in applying analytical/accounting research skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Public accounting experience is preferred.
  • Experience in the utility industry or a related business environment is preferred.
  • Experience using SAP or another general ledger or other financial software system is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with a reconciliation tool, such as Blackline, is preferred.
