Cable Technician

Location: MacDill AFB, Florida (Onsite)

 
Role Overview

An opportunity is available for a Cable Technician with over five years of experience. This role involves installing, terminating, patching, and splicing fiber optic and copper Ethernet cables in a secured environment. The position requires working in an active environment with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.

 
Key Responsibilities
  • Install, terminate, patch, and splice fiber optic and copper (CAT5/6) Ethernet cables.
  • Troubleshoot issues using cable testers such as the Link Runner AT2000.
  • Install cabling infrastructure under floors or in ceilings.
  • Ensure all cables are properly labeled and identified.
  • Complete and manage work orders using an online system.
  • Patch network cables in telecommunications rooms across multiple networks.
Required Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years of proven work experience as a Cable Technician or in a similar role.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in terminating various types of fiber optic cables (Single-mode vs. Multi-mode OM3) and familiarity with fiber optic color codes.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic connectors including LC, SC, MTRJ, and ST.
  • Ability to use an RJ45 crimper and punch-down tool for terminating copper cables, with knowledge of the T568B color code.
 

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Comfortable working under floors and on ladders on a daily basis.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% annually, both domestically and internationally.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must possess a valid passport with an expiration date greater than six months.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • BICSI certifications are preferred.
