Job Description:

Apex Systems is looking to hire an ONSITE Engineering Project Manager for our client based out of Greensboro, NC.

This assignment is anticipated to be a 6‑12 month contract with strong potential for extension; however, Apex Systems cannot guarantee the length of this assignment.


Job Title: Engineering Project Manager

Location: Greensboro, NC

Rate: $40-50/hr

Duration: Long term contract starting at 6-12 months will extend beyond that

This role will be 50 hours a week, Monday–Friday schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead end‑to‑end delivery of complex, cross‑functional programs spanning software, hardware, and system integration components in an automotive setting.
  • Drive execution across scope, timeline, cost, quality, and feature delivery while ensuring alignment with business and product objectives.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, milestones, and dependencies across multiple workstreams.
  • Break down program scope into structured deliverables (epics, features, tasks) and manage execution through agile or hybrid methodologies.
  • Monitor critical paths, identify risks, and proactively address delivery challenges.
  • Coordinate across multiple engineering domains, including software development, systems engineering, testing, and operations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between stakeholders such as product teams, architecture groups, suppliers, and leadership.
  • Drive cross‑team alignment in a distributed or global environment, ensuring consistent communication and execution.
  • Manage requirements, scope changes, and technical trade‑offs while balancing competing priorities.
  • Track and manage program budgets, resource allocation, and utilization.
  • Maintain risk registers and lead mitigation efforts to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Ensure programs meet quality, regulatory, and security standards where applicable.
  • Prepare and deliver status updates, reporting materials, and presentations for leadership and governance reviews.
  • Utilize project management and collaboration tools to ensure transparency and documentation of program activities.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering program management, project management, or engineering leadership roles.
  • Experience leading complex, cross‑functional initiatives involving automotive system upgrades, engineering system upgrades.
  • Strong planning and execution skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience working in agile, hybrid, or structured development environments.
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholders across multiple teams and organizational levels.
  • Experience defining and managing scope, timelines, risks, and dependencies in large programs.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to navigate complex and ambiguous environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence without direct authority.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working in software‑driven or systems‑focused product development environments.
  • Familiarity with system integration, verification, and validation processes.
  • Exposure to regulated environments (e.g., safety‑critical or compliance‑driven systems).
  • Experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar project management platforms.
