Location: Bellevue, Washington (Partial Remote)
This position provides Tier 2 support for network-related incidents and service requests. The Network Engineer will focus on advanced troubleshooting, resolving operational issues, and executing standard network changes across firewall, routing, switching, and wireless environments. This role is important in reducing the operational load on senior engineers by resolving most escalated issues and preparing complex problems for further escalation with clear diagnostics and impact assessment.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for network-related service desk tickets, including complex connectivity, firewall, wireless, and Internet issues.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting across network domains to isolate root cause and restore service.
- Execute standard network and firewall changes, such as firewall rule modifications, VLAN and switchport changes, and URL filtering requests.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to enterprise wireless networks (Juniper Mist or equivalent), firewalls, remote access VPN, routing, switching, and Internet connectivity.
- Support local and remote users through ticketing systems, email, Slack, and live support channels.
- Collaborate with senior engineers, cross-functional teams, and vendors to resolve incidents.
- Follow and execute defined procedures and Method of Procedure (MOP) documents for changes.
- Create and maintain clear documentation for troubleshooting steps, resolutions, known issues, runbooks, and network diagrams.
- Use monitoring and observability tools such as DataDog and ThousandEyes to identify, triage, and validate network issues.
- Escalate issues that require complex firewall policy design, network architecture changes, or redesign for systemic problems.
- Provide clear escalation packages including a problem summary, impact analysis, troubleshooting performed, and relevant logs or metrics.
Experience: 3+ years of experience providing Tier 2 or Tier 3 network support in an enterprise environment. Strong hands-on troubleshooting experience across routing, switching, firewall, and wireless technologies.
Technical Skills: Experience with Cisco switching and routing platforms. Experience performing firewall changes and troubleshooting, including security policy updates, NAT configuration, and remote access/site-to-site VPNs, particularly in multi-firewall environments (Palo Alto Panorama preferred). Experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise wireless networks. Solid understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals, subnetting, DNS, and DHCP. Experience with packet capture analysis using tools such as Wireshark or tcpdump. Familiarity with monitoring tools such as DataDog or ThousandEyes.
- Experience with Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) troubleshooting.
- Exposure to network automation tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
- Experience operating in environments with defined change control and incident management processes.
