Role Overview
The Clinical Informatics Specialist facilitates and supports the integration of people, processes, clinical information, and technology across inpatient and ambulatory settings. This role promotes the optimal, efficient, and effective use of clinical information systems to enhance patient care, safety, user satisfaction, clinical productivity, and quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a liaison between clinicians, operational teams, and IT to optimize clinical information systems and workflows.
- Lead basic to moderately complex projects, including planning, execution, and evaluation.
- Conduct analysis of clinical and organizational needs and recommend solutions, tools, and process improvements.
- Collaborate with clinicians to assess current and future technology needs and align workflows with integrated systems.
- Map current business processes and recommend improvements to enhance system efficiency and usability.
- Develop and deliver training materials to support end-user adoption and effective use of clinical technologies.
- Lead and facilitate workgroups focused on system design, workflow optimization, and implementation strategies.
- Recruit and collaborate with clinicians for design sessions, validation, and user acceptance testing.
- Create test scenarios, test scripts, and lead user acceptance testing activities.
- Provide subject-matter expertise in clinical workflows, policies, and healthcare processes.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Informatics, Healthcare, Information Technology, or a related field is required. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience: Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR), including data navigation and interpretation, is required. Candidates should have hands-on experience with Epic EHR systems and knowledge of clinical workflows in both ambulatory and acute care settings.
Technical Skills: A strong understanding of healthcare data standards and code sets is required, including SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-9/10, CPT/HCPCS, RxNorm, and CVX.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Epic Signal and Gold Star reporting tools.
- Clinical background or hands-on clinical experience.
- Epic certifications and/or build/analyst experience.
- Experience in clinical informatics, healthcare IT, or a related field.
