Cloud Solution Architect – SQL Server & Azure
Overview

We’re looking for a senior-level Cloud Solution Architect to lead SQL Server and Azure data platform design, modernization, and performance optimization efforts.

This role is ideal for someone who combines deep SQL expertise with strong cloud (Azure) experience, and enjoys working directly with stakeholders to deliver scalable, high-performing data solutions.

What You’ll Do
Architect & Modernize Data Platforms
  • Design and optimize SQL Server environments (on-prem + Azure)
  • Lead migrations and upgrades to:
    • Azure SQL Database
    • Azure SQL Managed Instance
    • SQL Server on Azure VMs
  • Drive performance tuning, scalability, and reliability
Ensure Performance & Availability
  • Implement HA/DR solutions (Always On, clustering, geo-replication)
  • Troubleshoot and optimize using Query Store, execution plans, indexing
  • Conduct SQL code reviews and performance assessments
Cloud & Security
  • Deploy and manage Azure SQL (PaaS & IaaS)
  • Handle security & compliance:
    • Azure AD, Managed Identity
    • TDE, Always Encrypted
    • Auditing & threat protection
  • Support migration from non-SQL platforms
Analytics (Nice to Have)
  • Work with Power BI / Microsoft Fabric
  • Support reporting, dashboards, and analytics workloads
  • Experience with Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks, or Python is a plus
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as a trusted advisor to technical and business teams
  • Lead architecture discussions, workshops, and solution design sessions
What You Bring
Required
  • 10+ years of experience with SQL Server
  • Strong expertise in:
    • SQL Server (on-prem + Azure)
    • Azure SQL Database / SQL on Azure IaaS
  • Proven experience with:
    • Performance tuning & optimization
    • High availability / disaster recovery
    • Migrations & upgrades
Preferred
  • Power BI or Microsoft Fabric experience
  • Exposure to modern data/AI concepts (Databricks, vector search, etc.)
Ideal Candidate
  • Deep hands-on SQL Server expert who has moved workloads to Azure
  • Strong in performance tuning, HA/DR, and migration strategy
  • Comfortable in client-facing / advisory roles
  • Bonus: experience with analytics and Power BI
