Professional - Engineer IV

Location: Houston, Texas (On-site)

 
Role Overview

This role involves the creation of natural gas distribution and transmission system designs. The position manages projects from design through completion, including the preparation of plans, specifications, permits, and contracts. The Staff Engineer will design new or relocated pipe facilities and issue orders for natural gas distribution facilities related to subdivisions, system improvements, and public improvement projects.

 
Key Responsibilities
  • Design gas distribution facilities and associated support systems, including cathodic protection.
  • Prepare long-range capacity piping plans, easements, permits, bid packages, and contracts.
  • Develop cost estimates, material specifications, and project schedules.
  • Perform system capacity and pressure study modeling and analyses.
  • Prepare and submit construction drawings for facilities.
  • Conduct economic feasibility studies and provide customer contribution recommendations.
  • Manage project deadlines to ensure completion on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate efforts with customers and government agencies.
  • Provide design support to local gas operations and prepare operational procedures.
  • Mentor and train new employees on design principles and processes.
  • Lead and coordinate design and construction activities with internal and external groups.
Required Qualifications

Education: A bachelor’s of science degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Civil, or another approved engineering discipline from an accredited college or university is required.

 

Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in utility design or related project construction design is required.

 

Licenses/Certifications: A Texas Professional Engineer (PE) License is required.

 

Technical Skills: Proficiency with computer programs such as GIS and SAP modules, along with word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting all deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of DOT CFR 192 regulations and natural gas pipeline design codes.
  • Capability to work with minimal supervision and identify personal performance goals.
  • Ability to identify creative and innovative solutions to problems.
Work Environment
  • Able to work indoors in a normal office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Able to respond to emergency on-call assignments and work occasional weekends and evenings as required.
  • Able to travel to field locations, which may require occasional overnight stays.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain a good driving record.
