Job Title : FinOps Engineer
Location: Chandler, AZ / Irving, TX (Hybrid- 3 days onsite)
Contract Length: 12 months (intended conversion to FTE)
Pay Rate: $80/hr - $87/hr

We are seeking a skilled FinOps Engineer to establish and lead a new FinOps function. This role is a top priority and requires a true expert to drive financial accountability, optimize cloud and on-premise infrastructure spend, and improve forecasting across the technology organization. The position provides hands-on technical leadership, leveraging automation and AI-assisted insights to reduce technology spend at scale, while working closely with Finance, Architecture, and Engineering partners.
- Actively lead and drive FinOps engineering efforts across both on-premise and cloud (Azure, GCP) infrastructure.
- Build and implement application-level cost visibility, allocation, and chargeback models.
- Identify and execute optimization opportunities, including rightsizing, reserved instances/savings plans, storage lifecycles, and architectural efficiencies.
- Develop and manage budgeting, forecasting, anomaly detection, and variance analysis processes.
- Create strong automation and engineering capabilities, building automated guardrails, alerts, and remediation workflows using scripts like Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Leverage AI-assisted insights to identify inefficiencies, automate cost recommendations, and remediate spend risks.
- Establish and implement governance standards for tagging and cost allocation at scale.
- Integrate cost controls and FinOps practices directly into engineering pipelines and operational processes.
- Create and present dashboards, reports, and insights on cost trends and savings to executives and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the CTO, infrastructure teams, and finance partners to embed cost as a primary operational and design consideration.
Experience: 6-10+ years of experience in cloud, platform, or infrastructure engineering.
Technical Skills:
- Proven, hands-on FinOps expertise delivering measurable cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Experience with Azure and GCP cost management, billing models, and optimization.
- Experience managing and optimizing on-premise or hybrid infrastructure costs.
- Strong automation and scripting capabilities (Python, PowerShell, Bash, or equivalent).
- Experience implementing tagging, allocation, and governance standards.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical cost drivers into business impact.
- AI-assisted FinOps automation experience, using AI-driven insights or anomaly detection.
- Experience operating FinOps in large-scale or multi-cloud environments.
- Kubernetes or container cost optimization experience.
- Experience embedding cost as a non-functional requirement (NFR) in architecture and design reviews.
- Familiarity with third-party FinOps or cloud cost management platforms.
- FinOps Foundation certification or demonstrated applied FinOps maturity.
