Embedded Software Engineer

Location: San Diego, California (Onsite)

 
Role Overview

Our team addresses critical satellite payload functions, including power management, hardware interfaces, command and telemetry, and operational state management. We are seeking a software engineer to participate in all phases of software development, from requirements through implementation, testing, and operations. In this role, you will drive the design, development, and operation of key functions for each satellite throughout its lifecycle.

 
Key Responsibilities
  • Own unique software functions through design, implementation (in Python, C++, C# or other), testing, and integration in a Linux or real-time operating system (RTOS) environment.
  • Write software to interact with devices and electronics using I2C, I3C, SPI, RS-422, RS-485, Ethernet, and other communication protocols.
  • Follow best practices in high-reliability software development to ensure high levels of reliability and availability.
  • Work with code delivery pipelines and automated build environments to provide a seamless delivery and integration environment.
  • Use Hardware-In-The-Loop technologies and automated testing to create scalable and repeatable test environments.
  • Engage with customers to drive customer-centric firmware and software release procedures.
  • Perform lab testing that involves mmWave products with RF silicon and phased arrays.
Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

 

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience delivering software in a production environment.
  • 4+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship).
  • 3+ years of experience in the design or architecture of new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling (non-internship).
 

Technical Skills:

  • Experience developing embedded, real-time software in Python, C, and C++ is required.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in designing, developing, and testing embedded software in C/C++ for high-reliability applications (e.g., satellite avionics, mission-critical systems, communication systems, industrial control, automotive, medical devices).
  • Knowledge or experience with board bring-up, BSP development, and OS/driver level software development and debugging.
  • Knowledge or experience with telecommunications, data communications (routers and switches), Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Layer 1 of the communications protocol stack, RF, and Antenna systems is a plus.
  • Experience deploying and sustaining embedded software in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with software optimization for fast production test throughput.
