Location: Eagle Mountain, Utah (Onsite)

 
Role Overview

We are seeking a Technical Specialist in Automation for a Power Innovation Commissioning Team. This role requires advanced technical expertise in automation systems that support the commissioning, startup, and operation of power and energy infrastructure. The specialist will apply specialized knowledge to ensure safe and efficient system turnover while managing costs and field resources.

 
Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate technical expertise in automation systems for power infrastructure like BESS, substations, and generation assets.
  • Support safe commissioning, system turnover, coordination of FAT/SAT activities, and punch-list closure.
  • Assist in the development and execution of commissioning plans, procedures, and automation test protocols.
  • Prepare and deliver technical briefings and commissioning reviews to project leadership.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry standards, including NFPA 70E and IEEE.
  • Identify and resolve project risks, integration issues, and system performance gaps to improve reliability.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Construction, and Operations to ensure compliance with design requirements and support operator training.
  • Serve as a technical lead for commissioning-related automation standards, including control system configuration and SCADA integration.
  • Support cybersecurity initiatives, system patching, and hardware lifecycle activities.
  • Provide field troubleshooting and real-time support for PLC, DCS, and HMI-related issues.
Required Qualifications

Education: A High School Diploma or GED is required.

 

Experience: A minimum of eight years of progressive experience in power generation, energy infrastructure, commissioning, or industrial automation is required.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard field reporting tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise automation systems for configuration management and version control.
  • Solid understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850.
  • Experience supporting commissioning workflows, including system turnover packages and redline validation.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with a focus on safety.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field is preferred.
