Mechanical Engineer - Mechanical Engineer IV

Location: Sunnyvale, California (Onsite)

Compensation: $63 - $73 hourly 


Role Overview

An opportunity is available for a Mechanical Engineer to develop packaging concepts and structural designs for consumer electronics. This role involves managing the process from early concept through to mass production. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver packaging solutions that meet product protection, brand, and sustainability goals.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop packaging concepts, structural designs, and detailed specifications for consumer electronics devices.
  • Create and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, and dielines for retail packaging components.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, and Sustainability.
  • Partner with packaging suppliers on design development, material selection, and production readiness.
  • Manage Bill of Materials (BOM) creation and updates in PLM systems.
  • Plan and execute packaging validation testing per industry-standard protocols.
  • Support pack-out activities and provide on-site engineering support during build events.
  • Generate and maintain packaging specifications and dimensional drawings.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and material optimization.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in structural packaging design for consumer electronics or similar industries.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software such as ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks, or an equivalent.
  • Experience with retail packaging materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of ISTA and/or ASTM packaging test protocols.
  • Experience managing packaging through product development lifecycles.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in consumer electronics packaging at a major OEM or contract manufacturer.
  • Familiarity with PLM/BOM systems like Agile or Windchill.
  • Knowledge of sustainable packaging materials and design-for-recyclability.
  • Experience with packaging for global markets, including regional and localization requirements.
  • Familiarity with print and color management processes.
  • Vendor management skills with international packaging suppliers.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
