The Controls Transformation team leads enterprise-wide initiatives focused on modernizing the organization's control environment, improving testing methodologies, increasing operational efficiency, and enhancing governance practices across the bank.
The team is currently in the early stages of a large-scale transformation initiative that will assess, redesign, and optimize controls across multiple business areas. The program includes strategic roadmap development, control testing modernization, process improvement, controls automation opportunities, and enterprise-wide transformation initiatives.
Our client is seeking experienced Controls Transformation Consultants to support a high-profile enterprise controls transformation program.
This team is responsible for identifying opportunities to improve how controls are assessed, tested, governed, and monitored across the organization. Successful candidates will help evaluate current-state control environments, conduct assessments, support strategic roadmap development, and provide recommendations that improve efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability.
The ideal consultant will bring deep controls experience within a financial institution, demonstrate strong executive presence, and possess the ability to provide thought leadership in addition to execution. The role requires individuals who can operate independently, work with senior leaders, and contribute strategic ideas that shape the future-state controls environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for consultants who thrive in ambiguous environments, enjoy solving complex enterprise challenges, and have experience supporting large-scale transformation initiatives.
- Conduct assessments of existing controls, governance frameworks, and testing methodologies.
- Review current-state controls and identify opportunities for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
- Support the development of strategic recommendations and future-state operating models.
- Contribute to the creation of enterprise controls transformation roadmaps.
- Complete risk assessments, control evaluations, and technology intake activities as required.
- Analyze transformation initiatives occurring across the enterprise and identify opportunities for alignment and standardization.
- Partner with consulting firms and internal stakeholders on proof-of-concept initiatives and transformation activities.
- Develop management presentations, executive materials, and strategic communications.
- Facilitate workshops, working sessions, and stakeholder discussions.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Provide thought leadership and challenge existing approaches to improve outcomes.
- Support policy enhancement, process redesign, and controls modernization initiatives.
- Identify implementation risks, dependencies, and recommendations.
- Collaborate across business, risk, technology, compliance, and governance teams.
- 8+ years of experience in Controls, Operational Risk, Governance, Audit, Compliance, Risk Management, or Controls Transformation.
- Experience working within a large financial institution or banking environment.
- Strong understanding of internal control frameworks and risk management methodologies (e.g. COSO, SOX, Operational Risk Frameworks).
- Experience conducting controls assessments, risk reviews, testing reviews, or governance evaluations.
- Proven experience supporting transformation, change, or strategic initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and develop practical recommendations.
- Experience interacting with Director, Senior Director, Executive, and other senior stakeholders.
- Strong written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail and presentation quality.
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality work while operating with urgency.
- Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, and influencing skills.
- Experience developing management materials, executive presentations, and strategic communications.
- Ability to work independently and contribute thought leadership rather than simply execute assigned tasks.
- Controls transformation experience within banking or financial services.
- Experience evaluating and improving controls testing methodologies.
- Consulting experience with major consulting firms or transformation engagements.
- Experience supporting enterprise-wide strategic initiatives.
- Exposure to operational controls, business controls, risk controls, technology controls, or enterprise controls programs.
- Experience developing strategic roadmaps, future-state operating models, or transformation strategies.
- Controls automation or process optimization experience.
- Change management and stakeholder engagement experience.
- Looking for consultants who can help shape strategy in addition to execution.
- Client places greater emphasis on practical experience than academic credentials.
- Fast-paced environment requiring urgency, accountability, and quality.
- First-round interviews will be conducted by the hiring manager (30 minutes).
- Candidates should be comfortable engaging with executives and senior leadership.
- Strong preference for candidates with banking controls experience.
