Location: New York, New York (Remote)
As a Safeguards Enforcement Operations Specialist on the Strategic Response and Escalations team, you will review user interactions for policy violations. Your responsibilities will include handling escalations to law enforcement and the National Center for Missing & Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). A significant part of this role involves reviewing violent content, assessing threats, and developing expertise in related policy areas. You will make consequential judgments under time pressure and collaborate with legal, policy, and threat intelligence colleagues. Please be aware that this position involves exposure to explicit content of a sexual, violent, or psychologically disturbing nature.
- Review violent exchanges and other user content to assess the credibility, imminence, and specificity of harm.
- Handle escalations to law enforcement and NCMEC based on established referral criteria.
- Build subject matter expertise in violence-related policy areas, including threats to life.
- Review customer signals and user exchanges to identify potential policy violations.
- Apply established workflows and referral thresholds with precision, escalating ambiguous cases.
- Maintain rigorous case records and chains of reasoning for potential external review.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify emerging harm trends and potential policy gaps.
- Handle customer communications and appeals related to policy enforcement.
- Contribute to post-incident reviews and process improvements.
- Ability to exercise sound, defensible judgment on high-stakes decisions.
- Capacity to work steadily and carefully with disturbing material.
- A quick learner with the ability to adapt to changing environments.
- Proactivity and strong independent work capabilities.
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work under pressure.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- A keen eye for detail and a systematic approach to complex tasks.
- Genuine interest in AI safety and ethical technology development.
- Direct experience with law enforcement referrals, NCMEC CyberTipline reporting, or comparable mandatory-reporting workflows.
- Experience reviewing violent content, credible threats, or violent extremist material in a Trust & Safety, content moderation, or investigative context.
- Background in threat assessment, crisis response, intelligence analysis, or a related field.
- Familiarity with policy enforcement in digital platforms and the legal frameworks governing escalations.
- Understanding of AI ethics and responsible technology deployment.
- Background in analyzing user behavior and identifying potential risks.
