Location: Austin, Texas (Partial Remote)

 
Role Overview

This position is for a Staff Electrical Engineer focused on embedded electronic systems, specifically in hardware development, system integration, and component development for dispenser products. The role serves as a technical leader and subject matter expert, responsible for driving innovation, setting design standards, and mentoring other engineers. This position is designed for a technical expert with leadership skills and an interest in transitioning into a management role.

 
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and review electronic hardware components, including schematics and component selection.
  • Provide guidance on PCB design and layout best practices, focusing on signal integrity, power integrity, EMC/EMI, and manufacturability.
  • Drive technical roadmaps for electronic hardware platforms and ensure scalability.
  • Establish design guidelines, workflows, and tools for the electrical engineering team.
  • Collaborate with global cross-functional teams, including software, mechanical, and manufacturing.
  • Mentor junior and senior engineers, providing coaching and leadership in design reviews.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex system-level issues.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety, regulatory, and payment certification standards such as PCI, EMC, and UL.
  • Support new product introduction by working with operations and manufacturing teams.
  • Actively develop skills in people leadership and team management for future growth.
Required Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering is required.

 

Experience: 8+ years of experience in electronic hardware design and development with increasing levels of responsibility.

 

Technical Skills: Strong system-level knowledge of embedded hardware architectures, microcontrollers, and integration. Proven track record of leading technical projects and mentoring peers. Familiarity with PCB design and layout tools such as Altium or OrCAD is preferred.

 
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
  • Experience with SolidWorks for electro-mechanical integration.
  • Knowledge of advanced problem-solving methodologies (e.g., DFX, DFSS, FAST).
  • Familiarity with C programming for microcontrollers and system-level validation.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, and USB.
  • Knowledge of PCB manufacturing processes and design constraints for volume production.
  • Experience in compliance and certification processes (PCI, EMI/EMC, safety).
  • Previous experience leading cross-functional initiatives or mentoring other engineers.
