Network Engineer III

Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado (Onsite)

Employment Type: Contract


Candidates must be able to obtain and/or maintain a Department of Defense ­­Top Secret clearance as a condition and continuation of employment.

 

Role Overview

In this role, the candidate will serve as a Network Development Engineer supporting build-out and deployments to the operational environment. The candidate will work within an agile scrum team and plan work based on customer requirements and program contractual agreements. This position is a primary Network Engineer role supporting a large-scale program, responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise network infrastructure.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, deploy, integrate, and test upgrades to the network at operational sites.
  • Travel to remote locations to lead and perform network installations, independently perform troubleshooting, and provide status updates.
  • Configure and maintain network devices including routers, switches, and firewalls from vendors such as Cisco and Juniper.
  • Monitor network performance and availability, proactively identifying and resolving connectivity and latency issues.
  • Implement and support core networking technologies including VLANs, routing protocols like OSPF and BGP, and network security controls.
  • Troubleshoot network incidents across LAN/WAN environments, performing root cause analysis and documenting resolutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to support network changes, upgrades, and infrastructure projects.
  • Support critical activities outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
Required Qualifications

Education & Experience: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related discipline (e.g., EE, CIS, CPE, MIS, IT), or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Master's degree.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Proven experience as a network engineer with knowledge of network design, development, and testing methodologies.
  • Understanding of the OSI Model, TCP/IP, and routing protocols BGP and OSPF.
  • Experience with network traffic analysis, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
  • Firewall experience, including Juniper, Fortinet, and Palo Alto.
  • Experience with UDP multicast, SONET, MSPP, VLANs, GRE Tunnels, and TCP/IP network designs.
  • Hands-on experience with multi-vendor switching/routing (Juniper, Cisco), WAN optimizers, TACLANEs, and optical transport equipment.
  • Understanding of standard DOD security practices such as STIG compliance and system accreditation implementation efforts.
  • Effective communication skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially PowerPoint and Visio.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarization with virtualization technologies such as NFV, SD-WAN, VMware, VMware Cloud Foundation, NSX, vSAN, and Aria.
  • Experience with network automation using Ansible.
  • Prior experience with the C2BMC program.
