Senior Hyper-V Engineer

Location: Miramar, Florida (Onsite)

 
Role Overview

This position is for a Senior Hyper-V Engineer to support a large-scale VMware-to-Hyper-V migration project. The engineer will design, implement, and manage complex Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization environments, with a focus on high availability, performance tuning, and automation. The role involves extensive international travel, with deployments occurring on ships while at sea.

 
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the strategy and architecture for the VMware to Hyper-V migration project.
  • Execute the deployment of highly scalable Hyper-V clusters, including Failover Clustering.
  • Implement SCVMM, WAC, and configure virtual networking (VM switches, VLANs, QoS).
  • Develop PowerShell scripts to automate infrastructure deployment, operational workflows, and health monitoring.
  • Optimize Hyper-V host performance and resolve complex, tier-3 hypervisor-level issues during migrations.
  • Implement and maintain Hyper-V replicas and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Recommend process, organizational, and system changes to support project objectives.
  • Interpret and apply methods and procedures in accordance with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and industry best practices.
  • Remain current with industry trends to recommend technical approaches for IT systems and solutions.
  • Work with Active Directory and Cyber teams to integrate Hyper-V cluster nodes as per modern cybersecurity standards.
  • Travel up to 90% to implement project deliverables.
Required Qualifications
  • Expert level knowledge of Hyper-V and VMWare virtualization technology (5+ years of experience).
  • 5+ years of experience managing a Windows Server environment.
  • 3+ years working with Cisco UCS server platform.
  • Wide-ranging expert knowledge of Active Directory, managing global AD environments (Entra ID, DNS, DHCP, NPS, etc.).
  • Experience with automation tools for deploying Hyper-V clusters.
  • Strong scripting skills in PowerShell.
  • 5+ years of Group Policy and Desired State Configuration authoring experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 90% of the time, with deployments occurring on a ship at sea.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer-service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous shipboard work experience.
  • Relevant Hyper-V/Windows Server certifications.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, etc.).
  • Familiarity with hybrid deployments, such as Azure Arc managing Windows Server environments.
  • Knowledge of GitHub distributed version control.
  • Experience with Linux distribution systems.
  • Experience with Pure Storage and Veeam technologies.
  • Familiarity with enterprise system monitoring tools like AppDynamics or SolarWinds.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud computing (Azure/AWS).
Work Environment
  • This role requires the ability to perform light to medium duty equipment lifting and carrying.
  • Standing for extended periods of time during deployments may be necessary.
  • The position involves working at ship construction sites (Dry Docks) and on ships while at sea with guests onboard.
