Duration: 6 month rolling contract
Work Location: Hybrid (1–2 days/week, downtown Toronto)
- Specific in-office days TBD
Hours: 37.5 hrs/week; Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Enterprise risk governance and control function
- Focuses on operational risk management, control frameworks, and regulatory compliance across business units
The Senior Consultant, Risk Governance is responsible for providing expert consultation on large-scale business initiatives to ensure appropriate regulatory oversight and risk management practices are applied.
This role leads the development and implementation of governance frameworks, policies, and control processes. The consultant will operate with a high degree of autonomy, assessing complex risk scenarios, identifying control gaps, and delivering sustainable remediation solutions across the organization.
• Lead management of material, systemic, and emerging risks across assigned business units
• Design and implement control improvement solutions across products and distribution channels
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, legislative, and operational risk requirements
• Support and drive remediation of control deficiencies
• Partner with business stakeholders and 2nd/3rd Lines of Defense on operational risk matters
• Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders (Director-level and above)
• Identify and assess risk exposures, control gaps, and operational losses
• Lead risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for risk and controls
• Support internal audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory examinations
• Manage audit scope, fieldwork support, and remediation tracking
• Execute annual audit plan activities and ongoing self-assessment processes
• Lead control framework activities, including:
- Risk & Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs)
- Scenario analysis
- Key Risk Indicators (KRIs)
• Oversee control environments across operational, financial, and compliance domains
• Recommend enhancements to control design and testing programs
• Review control testing results and support deficiency identification
• Deliver reporting and insights on risk posture and control effectiveness
• Familiarity with GRC platforms and control frameworks
• 7+ years of experience in Risk Governance, GRC, or Operational Risk
• Experience working within large financial institutions (Top 5 banking preferred)
• Strong knowledge of risk management, audit, and regulatory compliance frameworks
• Hands-on experience with RCSA, KRI, and control testing processes
• Experience supporting audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory exams
• Experience partnering with 2nd and 3rd Lines of Defense
• Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Cybersecurity risk
- Third-party/vendor risk
- Information Security (Infosec)
- Emerging technology risk (e.g., AI)
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Proven ability to work in ambiguous, complex environments
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Experience supporting Canadian regulators (e.g., OSFI)
• Experience working on enterprise-wide risk transformation initiatives
Apex pay scales are determined by role, experience, skill set, and location. For this position, the estimated hourly range is provided below as a guideline; however, total compensation may vary based on individual circumstances.
