Job Description:

Location: Bertram, Texas (Onsite)

An opportunity is available for a Propulsion Test Engineer to join a test operations team at a manufacturing and test facility in Bertram, TX. This position is for a hands-on test professional with expertise in liquid propulsion testing. The role involves leading test campaigns and driving operational excellence in hypergolic test programs. The engineer will take ownership of test operations for propulsion engines and other liquid propulsion systems supporting lunar lander programs.

• Lead the integration, instrumentation, and execution of hotfire tests for propulsion engines and related systems.
• Develop comprehensive test plans, procedures, and operational sequences.
• Serve as test conductor for critical test operations, managing console operations and data acquisition.
• Perform and oversee the setup, checkout, and operation of ground support equipment.
• Execute propellant loading, engine conditioning, ignition sequences, and safing operations.
• Analyze test data in real-time and post-test to verify system performance and identify anomalies.
• Lead anomaly investigations, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective actions.
• Collaborate with design engineers, systems engineers, and technicians to resolve technical issues.
• Ensure all test operations comply with safety protocols and hazard controls.
• Maintain accurate test documentation, configuration control, and test records.
• Work directly with stakeholders of the lunar lander program and other propulsion development efforts.
• Provide technical mentorship and training to junior test engineers and technicians.

Education: A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline is required.

Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on experience with liquid rocket propulsion test operations, including planning, execution, and data analysis, is required. Demonstrated experience leading or conducting liquid propulsion hotfire tests is also necessary.

Technical Skills:

• Understanding of liquid propulsion systems, including propellant feed, pressurization, and ignition systems.
• Proficiency with fluid systems, including valves, regulators, pressure vessels, and propellant transfer systems.
• Experience with data acquisition systems, instrumentation, and sensor calibration.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, control schematics, and engineering drawings.
• Demonstrated experience with test data analysis and reporting.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex systems under pressure.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
