Location: Forest Park, Georgia (Hybrid)

 

Role Overview

This position is responsible for structural design work supporting the Transmission and Distribution Substation Design Group and the Transmission Line Design Group. The Structural Designer will produce engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements for structural steel and concrete foundations, with an emphasis on safety, quality, scheduling, and costs. The role requires a hybrid schedule, with a minimum of four days in the office and the ability to work remotely one day per week.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements for structural steel and concrete foundations.
  • Ensure designs adhere to safety, quality, scheduling, and cost parameters.
  • Coordinate multiple projects and manage the workload of drafters.
  • Communicate with steel fabrication shops to resolve any issues.
  • Conduct occasional travel for field meetings and site visits, approximately 25%.
  • Work effectively in a team environment to develop and build relationships.
  • Mentor others and teach job-related skills.
Required Qualifications

Education: A two-year degree from a technical school or university is preferred. AutoCAD training, experience, or certification is required.

 

Experience: A minimum of 10 years of structural steel detailing experience is required, including commercial, industrial, stairs, and handrails. Experience as a structural steel detailer and checker is necessary.

 

Technical Skills:

  • High-level proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Experience using 3D modeling software such as SDS Design Data, Tekla, or similar programs.
  • Working knowledge of AISC, ASCE, and ACI codes.
  • Working knowledge of AWS welding standards and OSHA codes related to steel design.
  • Experience with analyzing steel connections and in reinforced concrete design.
  • Proficiency with standard office software applications.

 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience creating substation drawings.
  • Experience as a contractor or consultant to relevant power companies.
  • Design experience in transmission structures.
