Job Title: Data Engineer / Analytics Engineer (Semantic Layer & Data Products)

Overview

This role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining business-ready data products within a Medallion Architecture, specifically the Gold and Semantic layers. The position is responsible for transforming curated data into analytics-ready models, defining KPIs and business logic, and delivering trusted datasets to support reporting and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain business-ready data products and semantic models that translate curated enterprise data into structured, analytics-ready formats
  • Design, develop, and manage semantic layer datasets (e.g., models, views, tabular models) aligned with business logic, KPIs, and reporting standards
  • Perform data transformations, aggregations, and modeling within the Gold/Presentation layer while ensuring data integrity and compliance
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries to support analytics, reporting, and performance optimization
  • Collaborate with enterprise data and governance teams to align technical data structures with business requirements
  • Identify and resolve data quality, performance, and model alignment issues across datasets
  • Resolve discrepancies between business definitions, KPIs, and data models to ensure consistency with enterprise standards
  • Document data models, semantic layers, and analytics solutions, including business definitions, mappings, and technical specifications
  • Contribute to data contracts, contextual data layers, and business ontologies by:
    • Defining data meaning, lineage, and ownership
    • Aligning datasets to standardized business domains and entities
    • Supporting the development of reusable and consistent data products across teams
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, governed data solutions
  • Ensure adherence to data governance, security, and regulatory standards through validation and documentation

Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in SQL for data transformation, aggregation, and analysis
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI) and semantic modeling
  • Solid understanding of data modeling concepts (e.g., star schema, dimensional modeling)
  • Experience working with curated datasets in Gold/Presentation layers
  • Familiarity with data governance, data quality, and metadata management principles
  • Ability to translate business requirements into data models, KPIs, and analytics solutions
  • Experience with modern cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure, Databricks)
  • Familiarity with version control and collaborative development practices (e.g., Git, GitHub)
  • Experience with CI/CD workflows and development best practices
  • Exposure to performance optimization in semantic models and reporting layers
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Effective communication across technical and business audiences

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 3–5+ years in analytics, business intelligence, or data-related roles
  • Experience delivering data products, dashboards, and semantic models in a business environment
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally within a governed enterprise data environment
  • Experience in healthcare or other regulated industries is considered an asset
