Role: Senior Data Modeling & Test Automation Consultant
Supporting: Large Financial Services Client
Location: On-site in McLean, VA or Plano, TX
Assignment Type: Contract Only
Duration: ~7 Months
Role Overview: We’re seeking an experienced consultant to drive enterprise-level improvements across data modeling, testing, and automation. In this role, you will evaluate current data modeling processes and tools, execute structured manual testing, and design a scalable automation strategy to enhance data quality, governance, and release readiness. Key Responsibilities:
- Assess end-to-end data modeling lifecycle processes, including design, governance, versioning, and release
- Evaluate tools and integrations across data modeling, metadata, CI/CD, and workflow platforms
- Identify gaps, risks, and process improvement opportunities with actionable recommendations
- Develop and execute detailed manual test plans and test cases across key workflows
- Validate data model integrity, standards compliance, metadata accuracy, and deployment readiness
- Track defects, document findings, and support remediation and retesting efforts
- Define a comprehensive testing strategy aligned to quality, governance, and speed
- Identify automation opportunities and develop a phased automation roadmap
- Recommend solutions for automated validation, regression checks, and CI/CD quality gates
- Partner with cross-functional teams including data engineers, architects, and governance stakeholders
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in data engineering, data modeling, QA, or related roles
- Strong expertise in logical and relational data modeling concepts (entities, relationships, normalization, standards)
- Proven experience setting up testing frameworks and developing automation strategies
- Hands-on development experience with Java or Python
- Advanced SQL skills and strong Excel proficiency (complex worksheets and analysis)
- Experience writing and executing manual test cases across system, SIT, and UAT phases
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies
- Strong analytical, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills
- Experience with data modeling tools (ERwin, ER/Studio, or similar) preferred
- Familiarity with data governance and metadata platforms (Collibra, Alation, Purview, etc.) preferred
- Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub, Azure DevOps, Jenkins) and automation pipelines preferred
- Exposure to AI/ML concepts and applications within data environments
- Mortgage industry data experience is a plus
Compensation and Benefits: The pay rate for this position is between $35.00 and $48.00 per hour. Please note that the final rate may be contingent on experience and other factors.
