Location: Woodlawn, Maryland (Remote)

 

Role Overview

Our organization is seeking a Senior Scrum Master to join a team of qualified, diverse professionals supporting a high-visibility, enterprise-scale program. This role involves leading Agile team execution, driving adherence to SAFe principles, and ensuring delivery across iterations. The position will support major modernization efforts and large-scale systems integration initiatives, ensuring alignment with program objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate all Agile Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Coach team members on Agile and SAFe principles, ensuring consistent application of Lean-Agile practices.
  • Ensure the team adheres to sprint commitments and maintains a sustainable pace of delivery.
  • Identify, track, and remove team-level impediments to maintain progress.
  • Foster continuous improvement by facilitating actionable retrospectives and promoting transparency.
  • Collaborate with the Release Train Engineer (RTE) to provide team metrics, including burn-up and burn-down charts and velocity trends.
  • Support backlog management by partnering with Product Owners to ensure stories are refined, estimated, and prioritized.
  • Coordinate with other Scrum Masters, architects, and product teams to manage cross-team dependencies.
  • Promote servant-leadership practices to enable high-performing, self-organizing Agile teams.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational governance and quality standards.
  • Provide coaching and Agile thought leadership across the program.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Required Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience, a Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with 0 years of experience is required.

 

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience as a Scrum Master supporting Agile software development projects in enterprise or government environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise facilitating Scrum ceremonies and coaching teams in SAFe Agile frameworks.
  • Experience supporting Agile Release Trains and collaborating closely with Release Train Engineers.
  • Strong ability to analyze, present, and interpret Agile metrics (burn-up/burn-down charts, velocity, throughput, team capacity).
  • Proven success in identifying and removing impediments, guiding teams through conflict, and enabling continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with technical teams, Product Owners, leadership, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and dependencies across complex environments.
  • Ability to foster collaboration and build trust in virtual or geographically distributed teams. 
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), Advanced Scrum Master (SASM), SAFe RTE, CSP-SM, PSM II, or equivalent Agile certifications.
  • Experience with large-scale transformation initiatives or modernizing legacy systems.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Azure DevOps, VersionOne, Rally, or similar Agile lifecycle management tools.
  • Experience in government contracting environments.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD practices or DevSecOps principles.
  • Experience supporting multiple Agile teams or mentoring junior Scrum Masters.
  • Active or prior Public Trust or other security clearance.
